Henry Cavill is set to star in a spy film called Argylle, which is based on a novel of the same name by an author named Elly Conway. However, this is a huge mystery brewing about who Elly Conway is, as their online persona is almost non-existent, which is even stranger since this person’s novel is going to be a big adaptation. Also, Conway has been contacted several times by major publications, to no avail, leaving many to wonder if this person is real at all.

Delving into the freaky happenings of Henry Cavill’s latest project, The Hollywood Reporter tried to contact Conway but was unable to reach the author or anyone on her team. What’s even stranger is that deep dives only revealed the writer’s name to be that of a fictional character on the Australian soap opera, Neighbors. Fun and unrelated fact, the soap served as a jumping-off point for a slew of popular actors including Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Margot Robbie, and even Kylie Minogue.

To catch you up, the Henry Cavill-led production is based on a book that’s been gearing up to be turned into a series. Penned by an author known as Elly Conway, Argylle will serve as the author’s first novel. Typically, when a book is adapted into a film, it’s been out on the shelves for a while and has gained a following and even critical acclaim.

This, however, is not the case for Conway’s debut novel as the book hasn’t yet found itself as much as a preorder page on Amazon. What was initially meant for a September 29 release this year, has been pushed back to March 30, 2023, causing questions surrounding the validity of Conway’s spy thriller to be called into place. So, what does this all mean for Henry Cavill and the rest of the cast and crew of Argylle.

Well, it would seem as though production is moving right along. While we haven’t heard anything since March, we did receive a first look back then that revealed Dua Lipa in what will be her first major role in a feature-length film. In it, the pop star joins Henry Cavill in a close dance with plenty of passion behind both of their eyes.

An even bigger mystery is the film’s release date. According to IMDb, the film will drop sometime in 2023, but if it will come out before or after the book is left up in the air. Along with Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa, the feature is set to star some pretty giant names including Ariana DeBose, Bryan Cranston, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Despite the worry surrounding the non-released book and possible fictional author, Henry Cavill and the rest of the team don’t seem to be phased. The film’s director, Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise) has referred to the will-be series as “the most incredible” spy related stories “since Ian Fleming’s books of the ‘50s,” referencing the creator of James Bond. He’s also claimed that Argylle will “reinvent the spy genre,” something that will remain to be seen.
