It’s hard to imagine a world without new Fast and Furious releases. The end of the main storyline for Dominic Toretto and his family is on the way. Fans recently saw the release of F9, and the series will end with number 11. However, that doesn’t mean the end of the franchise as a whole. Hobbs & Shaw 2 is still coming. There’s talk of a spinoff for Charlize Theron’s Cipher. Naturally, it’s expected that the executives at Universal have several conversations happening right now, as they work on figuring out more spinoffs to keep their franchise going after the 11th film’s release. Thanks to some work from a trusted and proven inside source for Giant Freakin Robot, we can share that one of those projects is a Fast and Furious series. The new project is being developed for streaming on Peacock.

This new series is still in development, so it doesn’t have anything like a release date yet. A confirmed release date might help give more information on what the story is about though. Will the Fast and Furious series feature some of the same characters from the main storyline? Could it be a prequel series following the story of Dominic Toretto before the first movie came out? The first part of F9 introduced Vinnie Bennett as a young Vin Diesel on the racing tracks, giving backstory to his relationship with his father and brother. That could be an interesting source of inspiration for a new Fast and Furious series. That’s only speculation though. Our source confirmed that a series is in development for streaming on Peacock, but that’s all we can report on the project at this time.

Fans will probably wonder if Vin Diesel himself may appear in the Fast and Furious series. We don’t have answers on that. While it would seem like Vin Diesel might want to be done as Dominic Toretto, Fast and Furious fans know that he and Justin Lin often answer any and all questions about the movies by saying that anything could happen. They don’t rule anything out. And that logic will hopefully apply to the new series as well.

A Fast and Furious series will need to capitalize on what makes the movies popular. A quick look at the comment section on Vin Diesel’s Instagram proves that fans love the family theme in the movies. That’s definitely something a TV series on Peacock will be able to develop with good writers behind the wheel. A series will give more time to bring that out.

The real challenge here is that the Fast and Furious movies work hard to continue upping the fantastically ridiculous stunts. This creates two big challenges for the series. One is the budget to do that kind of thing at that kind of scale. The second is how to create wilder stunts as the series goes on. The movies have nine installments so far in the main series, and they definitely feel the pressure to keep upping the antics. Fans can’t wait to see how 10 and 11 are going to find a way to do something more bizarre, amazing, and hilarious than when F9 flew a car into orbit. How is a Fast and Furious series going to capture that kind of magic? Clearly, that’s going to be difficult, but hopefully, they figure it out, because weekly installments of that level of ridiculous will sure be a treat.
