After taking a few years out of the limelight and not participating in all that many on-screen projects, Mike Myers is looking like he’s making up for lost time in the next few years. He’s got some high-profile work coming down the pike and things are looking bright for the 58-year-old Saturday Night Live alumnus and comedic genius. The latest news is that he’ll have a limited series on Netflix with Myers playing a bevy of characters. And the storyline actually connects to a somewhat obscure scene in one of his movies.

The new Mike Myers Netflix show is going to be called The Pentaverate. The premise is fairly simple and potentially very funny. In brief, there’s a small group of rich and powerful people who have been deciding the trajectory and the world and playing puppet-master with our society for around 800 years. The group is The Pentaverate and they are the quasi-Illuminati, wielding more power than any group should. And they’ve been at this for hundreds of years, mostly in secret. Myers is set to play multiple characters in the show.

And this idea didn’t just come out of nowhere. The Pentaverate is “based” on a group mentioned in a Mike Myers movie from the past. That was 1993’s So I Married An Axe Murderer. The film starred Myers in a couple of roles, one of them was as his own father, who is something of a conspiracy theorist. At one point he gives a long soliloquy about the secret group that is controlling the world behind the scenes. It’s the very funny ramblings of an old crank, but looks like it’s the inspiration for this new show. Check it out:

In addition to Mike Myers, The Pentaverate is going to have a loaded cast who will help explore this group of power-hungry powerbrokers. There’s going to be Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, and Debi Mazar in lead roles. Plus Tim Kirkby is on to direct. He has a ton of television credits including Veep, Fleabag, Brockmire, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This new show has the potential to be very funny. It’s set to have a journalist, presumably Myers, discover the secret group and work to infiltrate their ranks.

In the last few years Mike Myers has appeared in a couple of films like Terminal and Bohemian Rhapsody. But it was light before that outside of some documentaries. But this part of his career has him pretty busy. There’s the upcoming Netflix show, but he is set to be some other projects as well. There’s an untitled David O. Russell project which is being kept under wraps but also has a loaded cast with Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, and many others.

Also, Mike Myers has been rumored to be putting together an Austin Powers 4 as well. Whether we ever get a return to the International Man of Mystery remains to be seen. But before that, we are going to get a six-episode dose of Mike Myers comedy with The Pentaverate which should hit the streaming service next year.
