At a time when Henry Cavill’s future as Superman is questionable, the actor has posted a photo to his Instagram showing how long he’s wanted to take on this role. To celebrate International Women’s Day, Cavill posted a childhood photo where he’s smiling on his mother’s lap. He included a caption, dedicating the post to his mother, adding that he learned how to be a good man from her.

It’s hard to believe such an adorable child grew into the actor with the famously chiseled jaw we know today. Of course, many kids have probably been photographed wearing Superman merchandise, but that doesn’t change how fondly fans feel about the photo. Understandably, the photo of a young Henry Cavill Superman fan has a touch of fate to it.

The timing is still bittersweet for Henry Cavill Superman fans who aren’t sure about the actor’s future in the DC Extended Universe. Recently, a new Superman movie was announced, which is being written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot. It is rumored that Michael B. Jordan could play Superman, although he would likely play the Calvin Ellis version of the hero from another Earth, rather than playing a new version of Clark Kent. While some fans have argued this shouldn’t mean the end for Cavill, it’s been a long time since 2013’s Man of Steel. If DC was going to move forward with a direct sequel, wouldn’t they have done so by now?

Of course, the Henry Cavill Superman has appeared in other movies since 2013. We’ve seen him in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a movie widely disliked by fans, and the theatrical cut of Justice League. Soon, we’ll be seeing him again in the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League on HBO Max. Despite all of this, it may be the end of his time as the man of steel. Rumors have been swirling that the actor is trying to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some have said the actor is demanding as much as $10 million to take on a new role.

While a Henry Cavill Superman may not be in the cards, the actor is still the star of the hit Netflix series, The Witcher. Rumors have also spread that he is negotiating for higher pay for his next season. It’s unclear whether the spreading rumors about Cavill looking for higher pay for upcoming work is true or not. For The Witcher season two, Cavill managed to negotiate a payment of over $400,000 per episode. That pay raise came after great ratings for season one of the series, as The Witcher turned out to be one of Netflix’s biggest hits yet, and his pay raise for season two has made him one of the highest-paid actors for Netflix. If Cavill does actually lose the role of Superman, at least he has The Witcher and plenty of freedom to explore new, exciting projects.

Though the actor posts regularly to his Instagram, the young Henry Cavill Superman photo is as close to mentioning anything happening with his involvement in the DC Extended Universe that he’s made recently. Hopefully, this means he still feels positive about his time as Clark Kent.
