Gina Carano has had an interesting couple of months to end 2020 and start in 2021. On the one hand, she was a major part of a hit television show that became water cooler talk for its twists, turns, and surprises. On the other hand, she’s had a louder voice around some controversial opinions which have landed her directly in the internet’s cancel culture crosshairs. And where the latter is concerned, Carano doesn’t appear to be backing off anytime soon. Recently she was spotted on Twitter “liking” a number of posts that have folks up in arms. Here’s a little sampling of those:

For what it’s worth, liking something on Twitter does feel a bit different than posting controversial topics more because the former is much less high profile. But not everyone sees it that way and Gina Carano essentially okay-ing these tweets has brought her back front and center publicly around some of her opinions. It lent to a number of The Mandalorian fans once again calling for her ouster from the popular show.

Things started along this path for Gina Carano a few months ago when she posted a series of tweets in the “anti-mask” vein that also questioned the legitimacy of the U.S. Presidential Election. This upset a number of folks who felt she was being overly cavalier around the impact of the pandemic and possibly also spreading untruths around voter fraud.

Rather than back off those stances in the face of public backlash, Gina Carano instead continued on the same path with her anti-mask views, doubling-down on her stance and refusing to apologize for previous comments. Of course, this further upset fans who continued to call for her removal from Disney+.

The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal did come in and lend support for his co-star in a tweet, backing Carano’s right to express her views as she sees fit. And as of this writing there didn’t appear to be any imminent plans to remove the actress from the show.

Gina Carano’s Cara Dune character played a major role in the first two seasons of The Mandalorian as a former shock trooper who helps Mando through a number of different pinches. She’s excellent in the role bringing a certain cache and confidence we don’t often see in female characters when it comes to the fighting and action. Of course, the former MMA fighter is a great fit in the part.

Whether this latest exposure for Gina Carano on social media means Disney folks reexamine her role in the series isn’t totally clear. Again, there’s no real word about how executives view the negative exposure. What is clear is Carano has no intention of allowing the backlash or possibility of a lost job to influence what she engages with online or on social media. She’s said as much recently, intending to maintain her views in an unapologetic fashion.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian is set to hit Disney+ at the end of 2021. It remains to be seen whether Gina Carano will be part of the show by then.
