new one sheetMichael Bay has two big action blockbusters coming out this summer. He produced the rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which opens in August, but he also directed Transformers: Age of Extinction, which is believed to be his last in the film franchise. Many expect the film to be the biggest of the series, and Paramount Pictures released a new poster that shows off the scale and scope of the latest Transformers movie.

The new poster showcases the film’s leads Mark Wahlberg, a struggling inventor named Cade Yaeger, and his teenaged daughter, a computer whiz named Tessa, played by The Last Airbender’s Nicola Peltz. They’re running away from their country farm as a gigantic alien spaceship descends on their home. This is the same spaceship that has appeared in the teaser and theatrical trailer, and it sure looks epic in this IMAX poster. This also let’s potential viewers know that this is a different type of Transformers movie and will feature all sorts of new fun. Considering Bay’s love for the American Flag, I’m surprised that Old Glory isn’t flapping in the background as well.

This part of a promotional tie-in between Nickelodeon and Paramount. Wahlberg is hosting the Kids’ Choice Awards on March 29th, so you know that the ceremony is going to be somewhat Transformers heavy. Paramount might actually premiere a new trailer or showoff new footage. The studio could feature the footage screened during this year’s CinemaCon, which introduces fans of the series American-made giant transforming robots. But what is for sure is that Age of Extinction will be mentioned at least 15 times, probably more, during the show.

So far, everything we’ve seen from Age of Extinction looks really good. The film has a charismatic cast and new and interesting characters. It also has a lot of new Autobots and Decepticons that haven’t been featured in the previous three Transformers movies. We haven’t even seen all of the Dinobots yet and there is still a lot of excitement surrounding Age of Extinction. Michael Bay might be two for two with the new Transformers movie and his recent film Pain & Gain.

The aforementioned footage featured an interesting dynamic with the film’s villains Galvatron and Lockdown. I’m not going to spoil the revelation, but if you’re interested, you can read all the juicy details here.

Age of Extinction takes place in Chicago, four years after the last film, Dark of the Moon. The action centers on Cade, Tessa, and her boyfriend Shane, as they “discover a buried Transformer which sets the stage for the return of the rest of the Transformers.”

The film also stars Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Victoria Summer, Li Bingbing, Titus Welliver, Kelsey Grammer, and Peter Cullen, and opens everywhere on June 27, 2014, in 3D and IMAX.
