A few weeks ago, Universal announced that Jurassic Park IV will make its way into theaters in 2014. With only a year and a half to get the film together, it looks like there might be a few speed bumps along the way. Producer Kathleen Kennedy will not return to produce the fourth film in the Jurassic Park series.

According to Deadline.com, the 59-year-old producer will focus her attention on the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, and her duties as the president of Lucasfilm. Kennedy’s longtime producing partner, Frank Marshall, revealed in a Tweet that she would not be involved with Jurassic Park IV.

Kathleen Kennedy had produced all the films in the Jurassic Park series to date. It’s understandable that Kennedy would back out of Jurassic Park IV, considering her duties with Lucasfilm and Star Wars: Episode VII. No director has been attached to Jurassic Park IV yet, but it appears Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall are still attached to produce.

Outside of that, there is still not much known about Jurassic Park IV. With only 16 months until it’s due in theaters, perhaps knowing who would write and direct the film could be useful. Jurassic Park IV has been in development since December 2011, with a script written by screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, The Cell). Let’s hope Jurassic Park IV will not feature the rumored dinosaur/human hybrid creatures. Yikes!

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Jurassic Park, Universal will re-release the dino blockbuster in theaters on April 5th with a new IMAX presentation and 3D up-conversion. Unfortunately, the re-release is a limited one-week engagement.

Jurassic Park IV will stomp into theaters on June 13, 2014 in IMAX 3D.
