The Walking Dead Returns To Put One Of Its Own In The Dirt: This Week’s TV Picks

AMC’s The Walking Dead returns from winter hiatus this week, digging up an episode with the cumbersome title of “What Happened and What’s Going On.” We join Rick and company in the aftermath of tragedy, putting one of their own in the ground and once again alone in the wilderness with no sign of sanctuary. The enigmatic official episode synopsis doesn’t provide many clues as to what to expect: “After the recent trials the group has faced, a slight detour could be the solution they’ve been searching for.”

Here’s an equally vague teaser video:

Face Off Serves Up A Hunger Games Challenge: This Week’s TV Picks

There was plenty to disdain about the former Sci-Fi Channel’s in the years since it changed names to the eminently mockable “Syfy.” The Ghost Hunters and the innumerable “paranormal reality shows” that followed. The philosophy that saw them distance themselves from the very genre that gave them their name. One of the few programs from that dark time that I actually really enjoy is the makeup competition Face Off, which returned with new episodes a couple of weeks ago. This week the series is following its common trend of tying in with a popular genre property — The Hunger Games. The artists will be faced with a “predator challenge” (no, not that Predator), and Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) will serve as a guest judge.

Face Off‘s “Let the Games Begin” airs Tuesday at 9/8c on Syfy. You can check out the rest of this week’s TV picks below, including new episodes of The 100, The Flash, Helix, and 12 Monkeys!

As we inch closer to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the expansive Star Wars canon has been streamlined to three primary onscreen sources: the six primary films, the Clone Wars animated series, and Star Wars Rebels. (As well as secondary material such as the new novels and Marvel comics.) Rebels is particularly interesting since it’s bridging the years between Clone Wars and A New Hope. In addition to new stories and new characters, Rebels has already included appearances from Clone Wars-era Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and even Yoda himself. Tonight Rebels brings another familiar face into the spotlight: that crafty bastard Lando Calrissian.

Syfy’s 12 Monkeys Tries To Change The Future: This Week’s TV Picks

A few weeks back we got to check out Ascension, the first volley in Syfy’s renewed focus on making ambitious science fiction television. That miniseries was something of a mixed bag, but this week Syfy has another new series up at bat, one we are still skeptical about: 12 Monkeys, based on Terry Gilliam’s cult classic time travel flick. The show launches this Friday night, but you don’t have to wait to get your first look at it. You can watch the first nine minutes of the pilot below.

Yoda Makes His Presence Known On Star Wars Rebels: This Week’s TV Picks

Along with the Clone Wars cartoon, Star Wars Rebels is one of the first projects to fit into the new streamlined Star Wars canon. The show’s producers have often teased that characters and in Rebels may appear or be referenced in the upcoming live action films beginning with The Force Awakens, but that crossover also extends to existing characters turning up in Rebels. We saw Obi-Wan — or at least his hologram — early in the series, but tonight another legendary Jedi will cross paths with the Ghost crew…even if he doesn’t physically appear. Check out Kanan’s close encounter with Jedi Master Yoda below.
