The Walking Dead Bows Out And Helix Marathons Season 1: This Week’s TV Picks

With Turkey Day nearly upon us, it’s not a hugely eventful week on the TV front. But if you’re going to be traveling this weekend, remember to set the DVR, because AMC’s The Walking Dead will be airing its midseason finale this coming Sunday with an episode called “Coda.” Unsurprisingly, the official synopsis isn’t exactly brimming with details:

Rick seeks a peaceful agreement when rules and morals are tossed aside by new enemies.

I’m intrigued by the “new enemies” thing. For most of this season, the group’s primary enemies were the Hunters/Terminus people, and their leadership recently suffered a machete-related setback. Now they’re butting heads with the hospital folks in Atlanta, but are they the “new enemies” in question, or is there another surprise waiting in the wings? There have certainly been persistent rumors that one of the most notorious bad guys from the comics, Neegan, would eventually turn up. It’s probably just a deliberately vague reference to the hospital people, but you never know — they do like to leave their midseason finales with something truly shocking.

If you prefer your zombies in colder climates, you can set the DVR for Friday at 6 AM (5 AM Central), because Syfy is airing a “Black Goo Friday” marathon of Helix’s first season. If you skipped the show during its original run, or even bailed partway through, this is a perfect excuse to catch up if you’re curious to check out season two, which premieres on January 16. (Of course, if you’re a subscriber, you can just watch it on Netflix Instant whenever you like.) The marathon will include cast interviews and a sneak peek at season 2.

Gotham (Fox, 8/7c) — “Lovecraft”

Gordon is reassigned to duty at Arkham Asylum, following a misstep. Meanwhile, Selina takes a new friend on a dangerous journey through Gotham to evade some assassins who are trying to kill her.

Sleepy Hollow (Fox, 9/8c) — “Magnum Opus”

A quest to kill Moloch is the next mission undertaken by Abbie and Ichabod, but only if they can find a weapon powerful enough and the Headless Horseman doesn’t get in the way.

Star Wars Rebels (Disney XD, 9/8c) — “Gathering Forces”

Kanan and Ezra help a deserter who is being pursued by Imperial forces.

The Flash (The CW, 8/7c) — “Power Outage”

The Flash battles Farooq (aka Blackout), a metahuman who can harness electricity. During their fight, Farooq siphons all of the Flash’s electricity, which zaps him of his speed. Meanwhile, Tockman leads a coup inside the Central City police department and takes several people hostage, including Joe and Iris.

Person of Interest (CBS, 10/9c) — “The Devil You Know”

Reese and Finch get caught in a power struggle for control of the city’s gangs when Elias is targeted by Dominic, the leader of the Brotherhood. Meanwhile, Root and Shaw disagree over how to handle a new threat from Samaritan.

Supernatural (The CW, 9/8c) — “Girls, Girls, Girls”

Rowena returns and tries to recruit and train followers in the art of witchcraft, but Sam and Dean devise a plan to stop her. Meanwhile, Hannah runs into a blast from her vessel’s past, which complicates things for her and Castiel.

Constantine (NBC, 10/9c) — “Rage of Caliban”

John is forced to put aside his misgivings about exorcising a child when a malevolent spirit takes hold of a young boy. But first, the kid’s parents need to be convinced that there is an evil presence controlling their son.

Grimm (NBC, 9/8c) — “Highway of Tears”

Nick is anxious to become a Grimm again in light of the attack on Monroe and Rosalee; at the same time, he and Hank are called to a stretch of highway that acts as a staging area for a horrifying Wesen ritual. Meanwhile, the sudden arrival of an old friend surprises Trubel; and in Vienna, Viktor meets with a completely broken Adalind.

Helix Marathon (Syfy, beginning at 6 AM / 5 AM Central)

Z Nation (Syfy, 10/9c) — “Murphy’s Law”

Murphy is kidnapped by a group of outlaws trying to crack the ‘Fort Knox of Oxycotin.’ As the survivors battle drug-enhanced zombies, a startling discovery is made about Murphy’s abilities.

Resurrection (ABC, 9/8c) — “Forsaken”

Fear and anti-Returned rhetoric rises as the virus spreads; Bellamy and Sheriff Fred make every effort to track down the True Living members before they can do any more harm; and Maggie gets closer to finding a cure, but then a kidnapping and a hate crime bring her progress to a halt.
