The Star Wars Prequels As Seen From R2-D2’s Point Of View

R2-D2 and C-3PO are the unifying thread that runs through all six of the Star Wars films (and soon to be nine). They’re the Star Wars version of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, or maybe Forrest Gump — forever in the middle of huge, heroic events that reshape the galaxy. Sometimes they’re just serving as witness. Other times — when one of them is carrying around the plans for the Empire’s massive, planet-destroying space station, for instance — they’re helping create the future themselves. That unique perspective is the idea behind a new nine-panel comic strip called A Certain Point of View, which examines the events of the Star Wars prequels through the eyes — er, sensors — of R2.
Taking its title from an infamous bit of semantic bullshittery by Obi-Wan, A Certain Point of View is the creation of artist Chris Gugliotti, and it may actually be more entertaining than the prequels themselves. I’m hoping Gugliotti plans to give the same treatment to the original trilogy — if he was only going to do one or the other, I’d much rather we got to see his take on the story of Han, Luke, Leia, and the rest. Still, even his take on the prequels is pretty charming. And I love the idea of that last panel, of R2 passing on the story on to Luke.
