Ninja Turtles Actor Defends The Reboot

RitchsonAs production gets started on the Jonathan Liebesman-directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, there has already been so much fan backlash towards the project before the film has even been released. This started about a year ago when pages of the script leaked and fans soon found out that the Platinum Dunes team had made some substantial changes to the turtles’ origin story. Namely, they were now space aliens instead of mutants. In spite of all the bad buzz, one of the actors in the reboot says fans shouldn’t worry, and insists that the new movie will be great.

While on the red carpet during the MTV Movie Awards, actor Alan Ritchson (Smallville) — who will be playing Raphael in Ninja Turtles — told THR that the movie would be “so much better than people think.” Here’s Ritchson:

‘The frustrating thing for me since I’ve signed on is that you hear that it’s already got a reputation,’ he said. ‘I think people assume they know what it’s going to be about, and those people are wrong. The assumptions, everything you read online is wrong…. You want to tell everybody how great it is, and you can’t really say why, but it is.

Ritchson continued to talk about the action of the reboot movie. It seems like Ritchson along with fellow Turtles actors Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, and Noel Fisher, is working really hard to make the best TMNT movie they can. Ritchson adds:

‘We’re learning a lot of the fight choreography,’ he said. ‘We’ve got these unbelievable stunt trainers that work us every day to the bone. It’s been a great process.’

Recently, actor Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld) was cast to play a CGI/live-action hybrid of the Heroes in a Half Shell’s ninja master, Splinter. Will Arnett (Arrested Development) has also signed on for the reboot. Casting so many comedic actors, plus Megan Fox, suggests the movie will be more light-hearted rather than dark and gritty, which seems like the wrong direction to take this property.

Ninja Turtles will hit theaters everywhere on June 6, 2014. You can watch the red carpet interview with Alan Ritchson below:
