I, Frankenstein - ImmortalWith the 43rd Annual San Diego Comic-Con beginning this Thursday, fans attending the pop culture convention will get an opportunity to check out new movies, TV shows, video games, and, of course, comic books. The major movie studios will be showing off the latest from their much-anticipated upcoming films, while newer films will be trying to make a name for themselves among all the commotion. Much of the attention will focus on Marvel Studios, Disney, Warner Bros., and Twentieth Century Fox, but smaller studios such as Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate will have plenty of genre films to show off as well. One flick most people don’t know about yet is the horror/science fiction hybrid I, Frankenstein.

Lionsgate’s panel is scheduled for this Saturday in the San Diego Convention Center’s massive Hall H, but for now the studio has released a trio of character posters for I, Frankenstein. The MTV Movie Blog had the first poster with the “Immortal,” which features a hoodie-wearing Aaron Eckhart as the film’s lead Adam Frankenstein, an updated and alternative version of Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s monster. /Film has the second poster with the “Good,” which features a flying Gargoyle, while Spinoff Online had the third character poster with the “Evil,” which features an evil-looking demon.

Lionsgate also shed some new light on the film itself with the release of I, Frankenstein’s official plot synopsis. The movie will center on the battle between good and evil, with both sides fighting for the secret to Adam Frankenstein’s immortality.

Set in a dystopic present where vigilant gargoyles and ferocious demons rage in a battle for ultimate power, Victor Frankenstein’s creation Adam (Aaron Eckhart) finds himself caught in the middle as both sides race to discover the secret to his immortality.

A few days ago, Lionsgate also released the first official image from I, Frankenstein, which features a shirtless and six-packed Adam Frankenstein. Eckhart looks amazingly ripped and menacing, so hopefully the more Lionsgate releases from I, Frankenstein, the more I will be convinced that this will be a movie worth watching. As it stands, Lionsgate has a long road ahead of them.

At their Saturday panel, Lionsgate will also show off material from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Aaron Eckhart, Yvonne Strahovski, Kevin Grevioux, and Stuart Beattie are expected to participate in the Comic-Con panel, and Lionsgate is expected to release I, Frankenstein’s first teaser trailer.

I, Frankenstein is based on writer Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel of the same name. Grevioux (Underworld) also wrote the film’s screenplay and will play the character of Dekar in the upcoming horror/science fiction genre hybrid film. Stuart Beattie (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) co-wrote the film with Grevioux, and also directed the film. The cast also includes actors Miranda Otto, Jai Courtney, Socratis Otto, Mahesh Jadu, Caitlin Stasey, and Aden Young as Victor Frankenstein.

I, Frankenstein will hit theaters everywhere on January 24, 2014, in 3D. Lionsgate released a new Facebook page for I, Frankenstein for up-to-the-minute updates on the film.
