Just the phrase Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles conjures up fond memories for many in my generation. Those “heroes in a half-shell,” in all their various forms—comics, cartoons, movies, video games, as fast food prizes—were everywhere growing up. All the recent talk of the turtles being from space (what the hell kind of nonsense is that, Michael Bay?) has got me feeling extra nostalgic, and I’m far from alone in this.

A new independently financed documentary is in the works right now. Entitled Turtle Power, the doc digs into all the various versions of the story. Check out the teaser trailer below. If you like what you see, you can go HERE to find out how to help the production.

The Filmmakers have amassed a crazy amount of footage and interviews. Of course they talk to TMNT creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and tell the story of how the characters originated. You have to do that, but they also interview Steve Baron, director of the 1990 live action movie (one of my very first dates), folks from Jim Henson Studios who created the puppet effects for the movie, and even the voice actors from the cartoon.

These guys are definitely in it for the love, and they’ve done their homework. Even though they’re devotees, Turtle Power doesn’t look like just another shoddy, gushing, fan film. The documentary is professional, well constructed, and looks like they put together a complete package. After this teaser I totally want to watch this, and hope they’re able to complete the project. Might have to pull out the Blu-ray box set this weekend.
