There is no end to the creativity of Minecraft players. There have been some wild structures created by players in the past, such as the Titanic and Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings. The latest build by Reddit user u/JDMGS not only looks great, but it’s functional as well. They’ve managed to create a working stargate in the Minecraft universe. You can hop over to the Reddit thread to see the build for yourself below:

The stargate build is pretty impressive and functions just like you would expect it to if it was in the actual Stargate universe. The builder used a combination of Redstone lamps, Redstone blocks, Redstone repeaters, and pistons to create their gate. A command block, also made of Redstone, is used to trigger the gate and the teleportation feature. Once all of the switches light up, a wall of water is revealed and then the player can walk right through. As noted by the Redditor who built it, he was not in Minecraft’s survival mode when he made this, since the function wouldn’t work there.

If you’re unfamiliar, Stargate is a movie directed by Rolan Emmerich that spawned an entire franchise. The movie was released in 1994 and prominently featured the premise and technology of a warp gate. A Stargate is a ring-shaped portal that allows you to travel interstellar distances to other stargates instantly. The movie would lead to two far less successful movies, Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. While the original movie got decent reception and features stars like James Spader and Kurt Russell, the TV series received more love from fans. Most notably, the series Stargate: SG-1 would become a beloved TV show and run for ten seasons. The franchise would go on to release two more live-action series, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe, and an animated series called Stargate Infinity. The last entry to the franchise was in 2018, with a ten-episode web series called Stargate Origins. There is also reportedly a fourth TV series in the works that would continue the stories of characters from the previous series.

Clearly, as evidenced by these Minecraft builds, there’s still a lot of love for the Stargate franchise in various communities. If you want to build your own gate in Minecraft, there are instructional videos that show you how you make your very own working portal gate. Check out this video from SethBling if you want a gate of your very own:

While this build isn’t quite as detailed as the Reddit build, it’s still pretty cool. The Reddit build is also notable because the gate really seems integrated into the environment, giving it a different level of immersion. Minecraft users are always finding ways to build new and exciting structures that do crazy things, so you’ll never know what they’re going to come up with next. If you just can’t wait for that next big Stargate TV series, at the very least you can get some cool recreation content from the Minecraft community in the meantime.
