The Witcher Star Defends Henry Cavill Replacement
The change was announced in October 2022 and ever since, the hardcore fans of the fantasy saga have been drawing their swords against the youngest Hemsworth brother without even seeing him in action. Nevertheless, according to the latest news, actress Freya Allan, who plays Ciri in The Witcher series has defended Liam Hemsworth taking up the mantle of Geralt of Rivia.
Allan’s Words
In a recent interview, Allan acknowledged the “fanbase can be very attack-y” regarding the recasting of Geralt of Rivia. She expressed sympathy for Hemsworth’s situation, recognizing it’s not ideal to take over such a well-established character from a revered actor like Henry Cavill.
“I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role.”
Allan continued to share some insights from the set, hinting at how much Hemsworth is dedicated to the cause. She mentioned that he has been in training for the role of the Witcher and has urged the fans to stop the judgment until they have seen him in action.
“I don’t want to speak for him, but from what I’ve understood, I feel like he’s really wanting to try and bring the heart.”
No More Henry Cavill
There is still a slight chance you haven’t heard the news that Geralt of Rivia got a new face. Henry Cavill, who portrayed the famous monster slayer, left Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher following its third season. His replacement is none other than Liam Hemsworth, known for his role in The Hunger Games films.
A Rocky Start
The Witcher debuted in 2019 to mostly positive reviews, but when compared to expectations, it was pretty much a disappointment from the start. Praised for its spectacular effects and impressive battle sequences, the non-linear storytelling and character arcs left many confused. Nevertheless, Henry Cavill collected all the praises and became a driving force behind the fantasy saga.
Two seasons later came the disastrous season 3 which premiered in June 2023. From a monster-slaying action show, the series was washed down to a political drama, copying all the worst parts of the Game of Thrones series.
Almost To The End
Season four began production last month and is the penultimate chapter in Netflix’s The Witcher saga. Season five will mark the official end of the series. Before that, season four sends our heroes into the war-torn Continent and they will face a number of challenges on their journey while they pursue Ciri’s true destiny.
Hemsworth
It is left to be seen how Liam Hemsworth will perform in the role of Geralt. Nevertheless, he is not a rookie actor, and in the past, he has brought some amazing characters to life, including Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games franchise, and most recently AF Sgt. JJ Kinney in the action thriller Land of Bad.
