If you like laughs peppered in with your thrills, this is the heist movie for you. Red Notice is a Netflix original starring Dwayne Johnson as an Interpol agent who teams with Ryan Reynolds, an art thief, to catch an even greater art thief, played by Gal Gadot.

What follows is a breakneck action film with plenty of quips, double-crosses, and of course, great heists.

Another 90s classic, Reservoir Dogs is one of the biggest game changers in the heist movie genre because it never actually shows a heist. This debut film from writer/director Quentin Tarantino is a gem on Netflix. It starts with a team of thieves having lunch before a robbery and picks up in the bloody aftermath of a job gone sideways.

The film introduced the world to Tarantino’s signature dialogue and exciting characters, brought to life by a cast of all-stars like Steve Buscemi, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, and even Tarantino himself.

This heist movie has one of the best soundtracks on Netflix, featuring a string of 1970s hits that started Tarantino’s efforts in creating some of the most memorable fusions of film and pop music ever put to the screen.

Triple Frontier

Ben Affleck

What happens when disgruntled special forces operatives decide to steal some money? They rob a drug lord for millions, of course. Triple Frontier is another heist movie original for Netflix that unites the star power of Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, and Garrett Hedlund.

All retired from their time in the military, the men struggle to get by and raise their families. When Isaac reunites them for a job that will give them the payoff they deserve, the group assassinates a drug cartel leader.

Things don’t go according to plan, and the men must question their loyalty to each other, their families, and their morality as they shoot their way out of a situation they never intended to be in.

Army of the Dead

From Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead may be the biggest, loudest, zaniest heist movie on the list. This Netflix original has a similar setup to Triple Frontier – a group of struggling ex-military badasses has a chance to pull off a job that will make them rich.

The group goes to rob an abandoned vault under the Las Vegas strip. The problem? Vegas is infested by an army of intelligent, organized zombies.

This action-packed romp is a bloody funhouse ride with sprinkles of horror, all wrapped up in the stylized visuals of Zack Snyder. This heist movie was a hit for Netflix that has a spin-off series on the way to continue the gory action fun.

Inception

A heist is not always about money. Christopher Nolan’s groundbreaking Inception is about a team of information thieves who don’t rob banks – they rob your dreams. Leonardo DiCaprio leads a team of thieves, including Joseph Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Elliot Page, to steal corporate secrets by using dream-sharing technology.

Inception is a heist movie like none other, and this Nolan classic is now on Netflix. The movie was lauded upon its release for its stunning visuals and mind-bending concept. Many view the film as Nolan’s masterpiece, and for good reason.

Inception set trends, won Oscars, and cemented Nolan as one of the defining filmmaking voices of his generation.

Cliffhanger leaves no mystery about its plot. In this action hit, a team of thieves loses briefcases full of cash out of their helicopter, spreading the money across the Rocky Mountains. A rock climber, played by Sylvester Stallone, gets caught up in the retrieval of the money and must use his skills to survive the deadly pursuit.

This heist movie is another oldie but goodie on Netflix, hailing from a simpler time, 1993. This classic Stallone action vehicle is a surprisingly moving, tense, and fun romp through the Rockies that steals more smiles than cash.
