Taylor Swift Is Greatly Affecting The Entire Economy

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is like a small country? Apparently so. Harken back to the Adult Swim series Metalocalypse centered on the misadventures of the fictional death metal band Deathklok, who became so popular that they ranked as the seventh-largest economy on Earth by the end of the series’ second season.

As ridiculous as this premise sounds, something similar is actually happening in real life when you crunch the numbers on Taylor Swift’s ledger, according to Quartz.

Taylor Swift Boosting The GDP?

Though it sounds like we’re making this stuff up, Swift’s record-breaking Eras tour has actually boosted the GDP of the US economy and has profoundly impacted not only the music industry but the tourism and hospitality industries (among many others) as well.

But without the numbers to back up these claims, you’d find this news hard to believe, so let’s get into the details.

Record-Breaking Sales

Aside from her record-breaking album sales, which make her the 20th best-selling artist of all time, the numbers for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour are as staggering as they are impressive.

As of this writing, the reported earnings for the Eras Tour are at a whopping $4.1 billion. For context, Avengers: Endgame pulled in $2.7 at the worldwide box office, meaning that Taylor Swift is not only pulling Marvel numbers but exceeding them by a considerable margin.

Treating Crew Like Royalty

And with considerable earnings comes considerable payouts. It’s no mystery that Taylor Swift treats her crew like royalty, and they have the paychecks to prove it.

Even the truckers who are moving equipment from venue to venue received an unheard-of $100,000 bonus, which is 20 times the average bonus when you consider industry standards.

As for Taylor Swift’s cast and crew, a sum of $55 million in bonuses were paid out to dancers, riggers, sound technicians, catering staff, video, audio, and lighting workers.

Boosting The Economy

But what’s most impressive about The Eras Tour is how much capital has been injected into economies in the form of ancillary spending.

When you consider the money spent on wardrobe, travel, and hospitality, it’s safe to say that all of these industries across the US and abroad have seen a boost in revenue as Taylor Swift traversed five continents with her 149-date concert tour, spending $5.7 billion in the process.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Movie

We’re not finished, however, because we haven’t even talked about Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie, which saw an October 13 worldwide premiere.

It’s no mystery that movie theaters are struggling to reach pre-pandemic numbers, and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes aren’t helping the cause.

While Hollywood is currently facing a massive slowdown in the amount of content that’s being produced and released, Taylor Swift partnered with AMC Theatres and defied all odds by releasing the highest-grossing concert movie of all time.

Massive Money

On its opening weekend, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour grossed $123 million, and to date, the movie has earned over $200 million.

In other words, movie theaters are seeing the revenue boost that they so desperately need during such times of uncertainty.

The Eras Tour pushed Taylor Swift into billionaire status at 33 years old, and there’s no telling when she’ll stop moving units and boosting economies.
