Taika Waititi What We Do in the Shadows

If you didn’t get out to see Thor: Love and Thunder this weekend, we’re not sure what you’re doing with your life. The fourth installment in the solo Thor franchise has been gaining praise from critics as well as its giant fan base, not to mention smashing the box office, making it a must-watch for anyone who loves the God of Thunder. Now that the movie is out and basically old news, of course, the next question is, “What about the next one?!” And even more, would beloved director and star, Taika Waititi come back to direct Thor 5?

During an interview with Insider, Taika Waititi dished on all things Love and Thunder as well as his thoughts for coming back to take on Thor 5. The director admits that not even he has thought about what that next film may look like, but he knows that if its star, Chris Hemsworth is in, then he’s in. In fact, Waititi bluntly said, “I would definitely do one, but only if Chris did it.” He went on to say that he would want to dream up something totally different for the son of Odin. While fans of the MCU know and love their films for the huge battle sequences, Waititi would want more than just the regular old skull-crushing and lightning bolts that come with a Thor movie.

In what would be a feature we’d be dying to see, Taika Waititi said that his Thor 5 idea would put the titular character in some unlikely circumstances. Something like tossing him into a car and sending him off on a “road trip,” which sounds like a dream. They may need to remove the roof to fit Korg’s head and would the goats be the horsepower or are they riding along too? Whatever the case may be, we’d love to see Thor cruising the highways of America.

If you’re not super familiar with who this Taika Waititi dude is, if you loved both Love and Thunder as well as the hero’s third solo film, Ragnarok, you’ll have much to thank Waititi for. Not only is it his vision that brings the colorful worlds and witty dialogue to the universe, but he also stepped in to voice everyone’s favorite Kronan pile of rocks, Korg. And without Taika Waititi’s amazing eye, things could look different for Thor 5. While he obviously wants to shake things up a bit, we would very trustfully put our eggs in Waititi’s basket to make sure things stay on point for Thor’s adventures.

As of right now, no plans for Taika Waititi’s return or otherwise are out there for Thor 5. The latest film sees the titular character trying to find his peace after the events of Avengers: Endgame. We find him fighting alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy until they’re called off to help one of Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) old acquaintances – which felt like a total setup for the next time we’ll see them. As Thor struggles to find meaning and love, he soon discovers that he, and all other Gods, are being slaughtered one by one by Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). It’s through his journey to stop Gorr that he discovers his ex-girlfriend, Jane (Natalie Portman) has been called to New Asgard as Mighty Thor. She and Valkyrie help Thor in his journey of stopping Gorr before it’s too late. We won’t give away any spoilers but someone else might, so go see Love and Thunder before it’s too late!
