The first part of Stranger Things Season 4 is now up on Netflix and fans are binging it as quickly as they can. As always, the series is bringing the nostalgia, the mystery, and the scares, but some fans are particularly perturbed by a potentially prominent pothole. Fans familiar with the first season of the show will remember that the psychically-powered Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown) didn’t speak hardly at all. However, in the Season 4 flashbacks of her time in the lab where she got her powers, Eleven is seen speaking quite a bit. Some fans are seeing this as a contradiction while other fans have theories.

Since Stranger Things Season 4 isn’t over yet, with the second half premiering in July, there’s no telling exactly where this story will go or if this plot hole will be addressed more clearly. Some people think that Eleven not speaking is just a trauma response from the experiments she went through in the lab to develop her powers. This is definitely a good explanation.

Still, others are just confused by this small plothole. However, the general consensus seems to be that Stranger Things Season 4 is a good time and that everyone is excited for more. The flashbacks were undoubtedly a big part of the season, but it does seem like the show was able to explain the reasoning behind the discrepancy pretty well. Here are some more Tweets from users who were a little confused by the decision to have Eleven talk so much in the past.

In general, the final consensus seems to be that the trauma she sustained in the lab and the activity of using her psychic powers affected her initial ability to speak when she escaped from the lab back in Season One. Regardless of whether it’s a plothole or not, the kids of Hawkins have a new big threat to contend with this season. Vecna is the big bad from the Upside Down and fans are raving as much about this villain as they are complaining about the Eleven plothole. Stranger Things Season 4 will be the penultimate season of the show, so it will be interesting to see where they take the rest of the season. Presumably, everything won’t be wrapped in a neat and tidy bow, since there is still one more season to go.

Stranger Things Season 4 might even have Vecna be the final villain for the series, with the potential for them to end up in Season 5. It remains to be seen if that’s going to be the case, but the Duffer Brothers and the producer have promised to give fans something satisfying to wrap things up. Unlike many Netflix shows, Stranger Things managed to miss the dreaded cliffhanger cancellation. Fans will actually get a resolution and a conclusion to the story they’ve been following for years. You can catch Stranger Things Season 4 Part One on Netflix now. The second part will hit the platform on July 1.
