Who doesn’t love a little Minions mayhem? That is certainly the case for the new trailer that has dropped for Minions: The Rise of Gru. Illumination has continued its fan-favorite franchise by adding a prequel story to the mix. Steve Carell returns to voice a much younger Gru who has been thrust into the world of super-villainy. Joining him on the quest are his known Minion cohorts: Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto. There is also an additional Minion with braces that attempts to join this wild family. You can see the chaotic trailer below:

The action behinds at an airport, where there are Minion pilots, stewardesses, and passengers. Naturally, this turns into full-blown chaos, as the pilot begins to take the plane into a pure free fall. While this is all happening, we are gifted with plenty of shots that show the young version of Gru (Steve Carell). This is presumably the final trailer that the movie will have before the film debuts on July 1st.

Minions: The Rise of Gru sees Steve Carell return as his best character. But not only that, he is joined by an all-star cast that includes Taraji P. Henson (Belle Bottom), Jean-Claude Van Damme (Jean Clawed), Lucy Lawless (Nunchuck), Dolph Lundgren (Svengeance), and Danny Trejo (Stronghold). These actors make up the Vicious 6, which is a villain supergroup that causes terror for everyone around. The group kicks out their leader, Wild Knuckles, who is portrayed by Alan Arkin. With Knuckles out, Gru takes it upon himself to audition for the group. They are immediately annoyed by him and peg him as a wannabe villain. His application is rejected, which leaves Gru to take revenge where he outsmarts the entire group, leaving them to seek revenge against the budding supervillain. Now Gru must take on the Vicious 6, with some help from his Minion friends. Also, Russel Brand is back to voice a younger Dr. Nefario. Fans will remember him from the first film.

Although Disney and Dreamworks have been the main companies that have dominated the animation sector for movies, Illumination is steadily becoming a fan favorite as well. From the Despicable Me franchise to the newly developed Sing franchise, they are starting to gain their footing. Even the Grinch remake they did was wonderful. Bringing Steve Carell on and having him become a hugely loved villain has paid dividends. Well, he’s more of an anti-hero, but he’s still a great character. Also, the Minions have been fantastic in every movie and have caused a wave of fandom of their own.

Minions: The Rise of Gru is set to premiere on July 1st and will showcase how Gru (Steve Carell) became the supervillain that has become hugely popular. This time, he is set to take on a ruthless group that will provide his toughest challenge. Granted, we met the character when he was much older and practiced, but now we get to see how his sprite and younger self handled being rejected. Also, just give us more Minions. They are always hilarious.
