Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Poster Shows Keanu Reeves Shadow Looking Scary

By Britta DeVore | Published

Sonic and Tails don’t know what’s coming for them in a new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 poster that depicts Keanu Reeves’ Shadow in the most terrifying way possible. The promo shot shows off the blue hedgehog, enemy-turned-pal Knuckles, and Tails all gearing up for a fight while over their heads looms Shadow. The upcoming movie’s new villain towers over the trio, with his head not only being as large as their three bodies combined but also completely glowing in a blaze of reds, yellows, and orange.

This is the first time eager future audiences of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have seen Reeves’ character since he was announced to be the voice behind the character back in April. Since then, the promo team has been relatively quiet, still keeping the bigger details of the John Wick actor’s dip into the live-action/animated hybrid universe on the low. But, this image paints a clear picture of just how menacing of a presence Shadow will be when the movie comes racing into cinemas on December 20.

The Cast

Keanu Reeves joins the vocal cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 alongside a lineup of familiar voices including Ben Schwartz as the titular speedster, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and Idris Elba as Knuckles. The third installment in the franchise will again see the animated favorites from the Sega games team up with a cast of live-action characters played by James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Jim Carrey. Among the new names on the call sheet are Breaking Bad and Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter and Mad Men’s James Wolk.

The Story

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will pick up following the events that viewers saw play out during the last film which crushed box office numbers back in 2022. After getting his butt kicked all over again, Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik has been in a bit of a depressive slump since we saw him last, but with vengeance on his mind, he just needs a little push to bring him back into the game.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, we can expect the mad doctor to receive that push and seek his revenge on Sonic and his pals this time with Shadow by his side.

Knuckles

In between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the film franchise broke into TV territory by delivering the series Knuckles to Paramount+. The show followed the character voiced by Idris Elba, as he took Sheriff Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) under his wing and instructed the officer on how to become an Echidna warrior.

Garnering mostly positive reviews, the episodic installments were the perfect way to not only hold audiences over between the two films but also further develop both Knuckles and Wade’s storylines, while also setting up some of the plot for the third movie.

Release

With the first Sonic the Hedgehog 3 poster to feature Keanu Reeves’ Shadow now floating around the internet, it’s only a matter of time until the studio starts releasing more promo material.

The movie is set for a release in December (just in time for the holiday theater rush), so it’s likely that a trailer, or at the very least, a teaser could be just around the corner.
