Marvel’s Secret Invasion is currently filming in the United Kingdom this week. And, as production moved from Yorkshire to the English capital, Samuel L. Jackson was spotted on set outside upmarket restaurant, The Savoy. Looking a little disheveled as Nick Fury in the scene, the bearded actor was dressed in winter attire while he ordered food from a kebab van. The images also highlight the character’s artificial eye and facial scarring.
Although this is the first time Samuel L. Jackson was spotted on set, he’s been filming scenes in the U.K since the beginning of the year. The Marvel alum will reprise his role as Nick Fury for the twelfth time in the Disney+ series. Created by Kyle Bradstreet, Secret Invasion is adapted from the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name and will share continuity with the films of the popular superhero franchise. Check it out:
Exact details about the show’s plot remain somewhat of a mystery for now. But the story is said to follow Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who tries to save Earth from the Skrulls, who have infiltrated all aspects of life on the planet. Rumors also suggest that SWORD, a more cosmic-based companion of SHIELD, will be featured on the show. SWORD’s existence was hinted at during the post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scene. And it was officially introduced in WandaVision.
The series will consist of six episodes, directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim. The directors will either split the episodes evenly, or one will direct four episodes and the other two. Like all other Marvel shows at Disney+, Marvel Studios will take on producing duties for the Samuel L. Jackson show. He will be joined by Captain Marvel‘s Ben Mendelsohn who is returning as Talos, the pseudo-leader of the Skrulls. Cobie Smulders also returns as Maria Hill, a former high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Fury.
Kingsley Ben-Adir is also joining the Samuel L. Jackson starrer as the series’ main villain. Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo, and Emilia Clarke will appear in roles that are still undisclosed. Filming began in late 2021 in London under the working title “Jambalaya”, with Sylvaine Dufaux serving as cinematographer. Secret Invasion is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2022.
Interestingly, Secret Invasion will be the first regular television role of Samuel L. Jackson’s entire career. It will also be his first starring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor initially signed a nine-film contract to portray Nick Fury within the franchise. He made his first appearance as the character in the post-credits scene of 2008’s Iron Man, meeting Tony Stark at his Malibu home to discuss S.H.I.E.L.D’s Avengers Initiative.
Since then he has appeared in multiple films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe – most recently in deep space, onboard a Skrull ship in Spider-Man: Far from Home. Samuel L. Jackson also played the character in two episodes of the ABC series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
