Many fans missed the new Doctor Strange trailer at the beginning of the Super Bowl last night. But even those who missed its TV spot have surely heard the talk trending on Twitter. With plenty to unpack, the trailer confirmed the news that Giant Freakin Robot first reported a year ago: Patrick Stewart’s Professor X will play a role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

You can see the new trailer with Doctor Strange and Professor X in full below.

According to our trusted inside source, we first reported that Doctor Strange would bring back some beloved high-profile character of Professor X into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 2 minutes 17-second long trailer revealed quite a few new faces, but the dominating feature in the short clip was undoubtedly the 6-word spoken line from Professor X. You can see a screenshot of the moment where Patrick Stewart’s Professor X speaks below.

The scene that exposed Patrick Stewart’s Professor X starts around the 01:10 timestamp of the trailer. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is put in shackles and escorted in an unrecognizable building by sentinels that we can’t help but notice look a lot like that of Ultron’s face from Avengers: Age of Ultron. As Strange reaches his destination and is confronted by what looks to be a high council of mysterious figures in robes. The music cuts and the camera pans behind one of the mysterious men. And as the unmistakable voice cut’s in saying, “You should tell him the truth,” our scoop is confirmed. Furthermore, anyone can recognize Stewarts’ bald head from the back.

As our previous scoop confirmed the Professor X appearance, it also leads us to speculate that the rest of our scoop-bringing the members of Marvel comic’s the Illuminati into the MCU will likely come to fruition in Doctor Strange as well. We previously reported that Doctor Strang 2 would not only include an appearance by Professor X, but also Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. Given the fact that only three members of this mysterious group were shown in the trailer, fans should prepare to see the other two characters as well. In the Marvel Universe, the Illuminati was a clandestine group of superpowered beings attempting to control events from behind the scenes.

Within minutes of first airing the new trailer last night, Marvel fans blew up Twitter with excitement on the news, bringing Professor X to top trending status. Much like the nostalgic anticipation from Spider-Man: No Way Home bringing back beloved actors from past Marvel projects, Patrick Stewart’s portrayal of Charles Xavier from the X-Men franchise has been cherished for 22 years. While others like James McAvoy have portrayed a younger Charles, the beloved character seemed tailor-made for Patrick Stewart-who not only was a dead ringer for the mutant, but also perfectly displayed the Professor’s wisdom, class, and commanding leadership.

As we wait to see how important of a role Professor X will have going forward in the MCU, we can’t forget an honorable mention to the rest of the teasers strewn throughout the trailer. Certainly banking on the word “madness” in the title, there is quite a bit to evaluate. To start, fans were quick to notice what may have been Iron Man jetting through one of the action sequences. While most of the world already knows Robert Downey Jr.’s iconic Iron Man saved the world and died at the end of Avengers: End Game, fans are speculating on a rumor we first reported weeks ago, that Tom Cruise may appear in Doctor Strange as a Tony Stark variant. Similarly, the trailer confirmed at least one other variant as well, as fans got a glimpse of live-action Zombie Wanda, who first appeared this past summer in Marvel’s animated What If…? series

With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premiering in less than three months, there is still plenty of unknown details surrounding the film’s actual plot. What will Professor X be up to? Who else will appear? The new teaser trailer certainly gave us a lot more to ponder. We still aren’t quite clear on who exactly the villain or villains will be in the film. We know the tentacled monster will put up a fight, and fans can expect zombie-fighting sequence with the powerful Zombie Scarlet Witch herself. But it’s still unclear what role Baron Mordo, the man believed to be the villain as hinted at in the secret ending in the first Doctor Strange. More than likely, Doctor Strange might be the focal evil in the sequel film, as What If’s has already put a focus on the dark variant version of Strange being one of the most powerful forces the vast universe has ever seen. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theatres on May 6th, when fans can witness Professor X, and possibly more fan-favorites grace the big screen yet again.
