It’s been almost three years since Game of Thrones wrapped its eighth and final season. And although the response to the finale rivaled the disappointment of Lost’s last episode, Pedro Pascal had no problems with how his character’s story arc ended. In a recent interview with Esquire, the 47-year-old revealed that he loves his character’s notoriously gruesome death scene. And that he almost quit acting because of it.

Pedro Pascal’s death scene is often ranked as one of the top three in Game of Thrones history. And the actor wears it as a badge of honor. But his outstanding performance often makes him wonder what’s left to accomplish in his career. “Makes me feel like a boss if I’m up there and if I’m in the top three,” he told viewers of the publication’s YouTube channel. “Everything after is a bit futile. It’s like, what am I doing? Why am I still trying? I did it.”

Pedro Pascal joined the cast of HBO’s popular fantasy series in the fourth season. He appeared as the sexually fluid and skilled fighter Prince Oberyn. He arrives in King’s Landing to attend King Joffrey’s marriage in place of his brother Doran. But it soon becomes evident that he has an ulterior motive for representing his family at the event. Prince Oberyn says that his sister and her children were killed by Tywin Lannister’s knight, Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane during the Sack of King’s Landing years earlier.

He only arrived to avenge them by killing The Mountain. Throughout the fight, the Prince dominates his nemesis. However, during an intense battle, The Mountain knocks the Oberyn off his feet and kills him by gouging his eyes out and crushing his skull. Pedro Pascal received loads of praise for the scene – especially since the character was a fan favorite among Game of Thrones enthusiasts.

Fortunately, the actor changed his mind about quitting acting. Pedro Pascal can now be seen in Star Wars spin-off series’ The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+. He will also star in HBO’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Last of Us video game franchise. The first season of the post-apocalyptic television series will consist of 10 episodes and is written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who created the game’s storyline.

Just like the 2013 game by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us series will follow a smuggler named Joel (Pedro Pascal) who is tasked with accompanying a teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the terrain of the United States. The story will also feature Joel’s younger brother and former soldier Tommy (Gabriel Luna). The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions and is expected to debut in 2023.

Following the success of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent in which Pedro Pascal stars opposite Nicolas Cage, fans of the Star Wars alum can also see him in another off-beat comedy called The Bubble. Directed by Judd Apatow from a screenplay he co-wrote with Pam Brady, the story follows a group of Hollywood stars trying to complete a film while stuck inside a hotel’s pandemic bubble.

The movie boasts a stellar cast including Pedro Pascal, Karen Gillan, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann, Kate McKinnon, Guz Khan, Peter Serafinowicz, and Harry Trevaldwyn. The Bubble was released by Netflix on April 1st.
