The highly anticipated live-action series adaptation of the acclaimed anime One Piece is arriving on Netflix next month, and fans couldn’t be more excited. Emily Rudd, known for her role as Cindy Berman in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, has been cast as Nami for the new series. While discussing the forthcoming show with GameRadar+, she revealed that it will include one of the anime’s most memorable scenes involving her character.

In the One Piece anime, Nami serves as the Straw Hat Pirates’ navigator and holds a high-ranking position within the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, something that won’t change in the Netflix series.

An iconic scene in the anime involves an emotional moment where Nami tearfully pleads for assistance from the Straw Hat Pirates’ leader, Luffy. In a touching response to her pleas, Luffy gently places his hat on Nami’s head, signifying his acceptance to aid her.

Emily Rudd confirmed that this powerful scene will be part of the live-action adaptation of One Piece, slated for release on Netflix on August 31. She emphasized her commitment to doing the scene justice, saying, “Because it means so much not only to existing fans, but to me, that was like, ‘I have to make it right.’”

She further acknowledged that this particular scene, which had moved her to tears during her initial viewing, was the catalyst for her becoming a fan of the original show.

One Piece, the Japanese anime television series from Toei Animation, made its debut on Fuji TV in October 1999. It adapts the same-named manga series created by Eiichiro Oda.

Netflix’s One Piece appears to be a faithful adaptation of the beloved anime

The plot revolves around the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, who, after accidentally consuming a Devil Fruit, acquires rubber-like properties in his body, and along with his Straw Hat Pirates crew, he traverses the Grand Line in pursuit of the world’s most coveted treasure, One Piece, with the ambition to be the next Pirate King.

Fans of One Piece can look forward to the Netflix live-action series, which appears to be a faithful adaptation of the beloved anime. The story will revolve around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man with a ragtag crew, who sets out on an epic voyage for treasure.

Along with Emily Rudd, the series stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, Jandre le Roux as Kuroobi, Milton Schorr as Don Krieg, Stevel Marc as Yassop, and Peter Gadiot as Shanks.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the One Piece manga, recently admitted that the transition of his extensive manga into live-action demanded seven years of strenuous effort and commitment.

He confirmed that the original One Piece manga’s entire content couldn’t be accommodated in the Netflix series’ eight-episode debut season. Oda specifically noted that not all characters from the manga would make an appearance in the upcoming show.

Fortunately, if the live-action One Piece series proves successful on Netflix, it could potentially motivate the platform to commission more seasons. This may provide an opportunity for characters absent from the initial season to be introduced in subsequent ones. For now, fans can look forward to the premiere of the first season of One Piece on Netflix on August 31.
