One Piece Episode 1071, released on August 6, created so much hype that it caused the Crunchyroll servers to crash temporarily. Fortunately, the popular anime streaming platform was back online after approximately an hour. However, fans in some regions say it was unusable for most of the day, Sportskeeda reports.

One Piece Episode 1071, featuring the debut of Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation, caused Crunchyroll’s servers to crash, taking the whole service offline for most of the day.

The crash, coupled with the hype surrounding the episode, also caused social media sites to crash due to increased traffic. In One Piece Episode 1071, viewers finally see Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation into the Warrior of Liberation. It differs significantly from all his prior Gear iterations, providing him with several newfound freedoms.

One Piece fans have been waiting for Lufyy to get his Gear 5 upgrade since around 2016. This upgrade boosted his powers, thanks to a particular type of Devil Fruit. Viewers also learned more about what the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit can do and were treated to some of its mysterious back story. So it’s not surprising that the excitement broke the internet.

Rival anime fan communities argue that Gear 5 is less successful than Naruto’s Baryon Mode and Goku’s Ultra Instinct. Despite these claims, One Piece Episode 1071 secured the fifth and third positions on the global X (formerly Twitter) trending chart, an accomplishment Naruto never attained. Bleach fans also questioned the episode’s success, asserting that Ichigo’s Final Getsuga Tensho outshines Gear 5.

One Piece has been targetted by other anime fandoms that insist other ultimate transformations are more satisfying than Gear 5.

However, the One Piece community on social media vehemently rebutted these comparisons and defended the series. The ardor with which supporters rallied around Gear 5 is commendable, showcasing their unwavering dedication to Eiichiro Oda and his creation. Episode 1071 currently boasts the highest post count in the series, surpassing Episodes 1015 and 1062.

Meanwhile, the teaser for One Piece Episode 1072, titled “The Ridiculous Power! Gear Five in Full Play,” has been released on YouTube, giving fans a glimpse at the forthcoming episode scheduled for August 13. The clip reveals that Luffy will explore his Gear 5 upgrade and learn how to use his new abilities to the fullest in his fight against the formidable Kaido.

“The new experience that defies logic. The earth becomes bouncy, and all of his techniques are bizarre. Is he a god or Luffy or something else? The comedic scene is enough to make your eyes pop out of your head. Attention, everyone! This is his peak,” the teaser voiceover says about the upcoming One Piece episode.

The team at Toei Animation has gone above and beyond for Episode 1072, showcasing intricate visuals that surpass One Piece fans’ expectations. Viewers are captivated by the elevated animation quality, expressing their excitement and gratitude towards the dedicated individuals who contributed to it, affirming that the effort invested was worthwhile.

Luffy’s Gear 5 debut in One Piece Episode 1072 surpassed fan expectations with animation that is some of the best in the series.

In One Piece Episode 1072, Luffy’s abilities are expected to get even crazier as the fight with Kaido gets more intense. Both combatants will push the boundaries to extremes in their pursuit of victory to the extent that the earth appears to move. Luffy will need to use some unconventional moves and think creatively if he wants to win.

One Piece chronicles the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy who dreams of claiming the title of Pirate King.  Although he starts searching for the elusive One Piece alone, Luffy’s path quickly converges with that of others, culminating in establishing the Straw Hat Pirates. Together, they navigate the oceans and face a multitude of challenges.
