Star Wars fans are rejoicing today, as they get the premiere of a brand new series featuring a fan-favorite character. Ewan McGregor is officially back as the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, after playing him in the prequel trilogy. To celebrate the occasion, Disney turned the iconic Battersea Power Station chimney stacks in London into lightsabers.

This is a pretty cool sight, whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not. The chimney stacks are lit up red to represent the lightsaber of the fearsome Darth Vader and blue to represent Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan Kenobi will prominently feature both characters, with Hayden Christensen suiting up as Darth Vader for the first time since the prequel trilogy. Of course, Christensen played Anakin Skywalker, the man who would become Vader, but he never got a chance to play the Sith Lord in his full black robotic armor. Check out the Tweet from the official Star Wars UK account.

Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. In that movie, we saw Anakin Skywalker fall for Emporer Palpatine’s Dark Side seductions. At the end of the movie, Palpatine executed Order 66, which saw the clone troopers kill the Jedi Order. Anakin would fight Obi-Wan on Mustafar and ultimately lose, with Obi-Wan leaving him to burn in the fires there. Anakin’s wife, Padme, gave birth to Luke and Leia before passing away. Luke would be spirited to Tattoine while Leia would grow up on Alderaan in the care of Senator Bail Organa. Obi-Wan would go into hiding to watch over Luke as he grows up, and that’s where we catch up with him in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Of course, watching over a fledgling Jedi won’t be easy, and that’s where the story and action of Obi-Wan Kenobi come in. Darth Vader and the Empire are intent on eradicating any surviving Jedi, including Obi-Wan. This is done through Vader’s elite assassin force known as the Inquistorius. These secret warriors are conscripted and trained to hunt down and kill Jedi.

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, our primary Inquisitor characters will be the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend), the Fifth Brother (Sung Kang), the Fourth Sister (Rya Kihlstedt), and the Third Sister (Moses Ingram). In addition to Obi-Wan and Vader, we’ll also get some returning characters like Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), and Owen and Beru Lars (Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse).

Obi-Wan Kenobi will also feature a brand new cast of characters, with actors like Benny Safdie, Kumail Nanjiani, and Flea playing various roles. Deborah Chow directs the series with Natalie Holt composing the score. John Williams also made contributions to the score. You can catch the first two episodes of the series on Disney+ today. New episodes will be released every Wednesday until the finale on June 22. This is a limited series, so it’s probably the only season we’ll get of Obi-Wan Kenobi. At least Star Wars fans can look forward to Andor in August and the third season of The Mandalorian in February of 2023.
