Beef, Netflix’s award-winning comedy-drama television miniseries, might return for a second season with new characters and a different storyline. Reportedly, the series creator and its director, Lee Sung Jin, are circling the cast for Beef Season 2, and the names currently associated are some of Hollywood’s biggest stars—Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny.

A Star-Studded Reunion

The rumors mention four names, suggesting that Beef Season 2 will continue with a new feud-centered narrative, but this time, the storyline might revolve around two couples feuding with each other. Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny are being courted to play one couple, and Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, who had paired nicely in 2005’s Brokeback Mountain and 2010’s Love & Other Drugs, are being eyed to play couple number two. But the potential involvement of the aforementioned cast isn’t the only thing that’s rumored.

The rumors also suggest that the premise of Beef Season 2 is likely to differ from the original season and that both Netflix and A24 have a limited season’s worth of scripts, with both companies getting ready to push the second season of their successful collaboration into production by late summer or fall. As the companies plan their production and focus on what seems to be a well-stacked cast, it’s important to note that this is still very early information, mostly based on hearsay—lacking any official confirmation, this information is subject to change.

Beef Was A Major Win For Netflix

Beef Season 1 brought Netflix subscribers an experimental ten episodes, which turned out to be a massive success that has been picking up awards left and right, including eight Primetime Emmys and three Golden Globe Awards.

The previous season starred Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as two strangers who got into a road rage incident and developed an unhealthy obsession with each other. While this might sound like the beginning of a rom-com, it’s actually the start of a hilarious feud that would take the series’ leads through an unexpected journey. Considering the first season’s acclaim and the rumors suggesting the involvement of a star-studded cast, Beef Season 2 really has a lot to live up to.

Up Next For Jake Gyllenhaal And Anne Hathaway

We know for a fact that Jake Gyllenhaal is scheduled to star in Prime Video’s iteration of Road House, the 1989 action classic starring Patrick Swayze and Kelly Lynch, with the movie following Gyllenhaal as a former MMA fighter who ends up working at the titular spot in Florida.

Anne Hathaway has four upcoming titles lined up, with The Idea of You scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2024. If the contracts for Beef ‘s purported Season 2 are signed, both stars will get ready for their respective roles in the upcoming series.
