Disenchantment

Netflix has released a trailer for the fifth and final season of Disenchantment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the animated sitcom will begin its last run of 10 episodes on September 1. The two-minute clip summarizes Bean’s journey so far.

It also offers a glimpse of the characters’ final adventure, including a scene with Queen Dagmar strangling Elfo and Bean leading her crew on a ship.

On the same day the trailer for the fifth season of Disenchantment was released, Netflix announced this would be the series’ final season.

The final season of Disenchantment will follow the misadventures of hard-hitting, hard-drinking Queen Bean. Accompanied by the feisty Elfo and her personal demon Luci, the fifth season will culminate in an epic battle. To save Dreamland from the evil reign of Queen Dagmar, Bean must defeat her mother and escape the burden of a prophecy predicting that she will harm a loved one.

Disenchantment takes a humorous and satirical approach to traditional fairy tales and fantasy tropes.

Disenchantment is created by Matt Groening, the same mind behind iconic shows like The Simpsons and Futurama. The series made its debut on Netflix in August 2018. The show follows the adventures of a hard-drinking and rebellious princess named Tiabeanie “Bean” of Dreamland, voiced by Abbi Jacobson.

The series takes a humorous and satirical approach to traditional fairy tales and fantasy tropes. Bean is accompanied by her two unconventional companions – Elfo (voiced by Nat Faxon), an optimistic and innocent elf who escaped from his secluded homeland, and Luci (voiced by Eric Andre), a personal demon sent to corrupt Bean but who ends up forming a close bond with her. Throughout Disenchantment, Bean embarks on various adventures, defying her royal duties and expectations.

She also faces a series of challenges while discovering hidden secrets about her kingdom and her past. Disenchantment also boasts a diverse and eccentric cast of supporting characters, including King Zog (voiced by John DiMaggio), Bean’s gruff and eccentric father, and various other inhabitants of Dreamland, such as knights, witches, and magical creatures.

Netflix is known for canceling popular shows, sometimes after just one season, regardless of their ratings or critic reviews.

The first season of Disenchantment consisted of 10 episodes. However, the show’s unique mix of humor and fantasy elements received a somewhat mixed response from critics and audiences. Some praised its wit and charm, while others found it lacking in originality.

The first part of the series received an average score of 56 out of 100 on Metacritic, indicating mixed or average reviews.

Disenchantment, Groening’s latest animated series, is a Netflix original production, making it his first show of this kind since The Simpsons and Futurama. The latter recently made a comeback with a 20-episode order on Hulu after previously airing on Fox and Comedy Central. The long-standing success of The Simpsons led to its renewal through its 36th season on Fox.

Josh Weinstein, known for his work on The Simpsons, serves as a showrunner for Disenchantment. Netflix is known for canceling popular shows, sometimes after just one season, regardless of their ratings or critic reviews. Some shows have been canceled despite having a solid fan base and significant viewership numbers.

Fortunately, some shows that were canceled by Netflix have been picked up by other streaming outlets and networks. It’s unclear if Groening will seek out a new home for the series, though given the season five synopsis, it seems unlikely that Bean’s adventures in Disenchantment will continue.
