There Is One 2024 Movie People Are Excited For Above All Others, And It’s Not Even Close

By Zack Zagranis | Updated

Despite all the recent talk about superhero fatigue, people are counting down the days until the next Deadpool movie. A poll conducted by Giant Freakin Robot on X (formerly Twitter) found that of the four biggest releases slated for this year, Deadpool 3 was the 2024 movie fans were most excited about—and it wasn’t even close. Deadpool 3 scored 52.9 percent of the votes, while the second most anticipated film—Dune: Part Two only earned 36 percent.

The Results Are In

Joker: Folie a Deux and Furiosa—the other 2024 movies included in the poll—together earned just over 11 percent of the final vote tally. Joker 2, which promises to introduce Lady Gaga’s version of Harley Quinn, ranked slightly higher than the Fury Road prequel with 6.2 percent of votes versus Furiosa‘s 4.9 percent.

Hugh Jackman Carrying Deadpool 3

So why is everyone so hyped up for the return of Ryan Reynolds’s Merc with a Mouth? Two words: Hugh Jackman. How the snarky Canadian got Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine is a secret only the two actors are privy to. All we know is that the original Marvel movie icon is coming out of retirement, making Deadpool 3 the 2024 movie to beat.

Jackman Made Superheroes Cool Again Long Before Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr Marvel fatigue

Younger fans may forget that before Robert Downey Jr. donned the Iron Man armor before Toby Maguire put on Spider-Man’s iconic red and blue PJs, Hugh Jackman was chewing cigars and popping his claws as Wolverine in the first X-Men movie. Starting in the year 2000, Jackman portrayed the feral mutant a total of eight times before calling it quits with 2017’s Logan.

The announcement that the saucy Aussie would be returning as Wolverine for Deadpool 3 had fans emulating a particular Lonely Island song—we won’t link it, but you can probably guess.

As if that weren’t enough, leaked set photos have revealed that Jackman will finally be donning Wolverine’s iconic yellow and blue suit from the comics. At this rate, fans will run out of clean jeans to wear by the time the 2024 sequel hits movie theaters on July 26.

Dune: Part Two Takes Second Place

Meanwhile, it’s no surprise that Dune: Part Two is the second most anticipated movie of 2024. Dennis Villeneuve’s sequel might not have Hugh Jackman but what it does have is Villeneuve’s sweeping landscapes and beautiful shot compositions.

If Dune: Part Two is even half as breathtaking as Part One or Blade Runner 2049, then fans are in for a visual feast to rival anything else coming out this year. Dune: Part Two will be one 2024 movie you have to experience in IMAX.

Don’t Sleep On Mad Max: Furiosa

As for the bottom half of our 2024 movie poll, don’t sleep on either Furiosa or Joker: Folie a Deux. The trailer for Furiosa saw fans complaining about subpar CGI and a lack of Mad Max, but all we can say is trust in George Miller. Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the best movies of the century so far and arguably the best film in the Mad Max series.

If George Miller can take a thirty-year break from his signature franchise and come back at the ripe old age of 70 to deliver the best thing he’s ever made, there’s no way that his Fury Road prequel isn’t at least decent.

Making The Joker Sequel A Musical Isn’t Hyping Moviegoers

Joker 2, on the other hand, is such an odd duck that it almost defies classification. A gritty, grounded drama revolving around a classic Batman villain shouldn’t have worked, but it did, and it made over a billion dollars at the box office. So what does director Todd Phillips do to follow it up? A musical starring Lady Gaga, of course!Seriously, Joker: Folie à Deux is bound to at least be entertaining. It’s too gonzo, off the wall to be a boring slog. Between Joker 2 and Deadpool 3, could 2024 signal a comic book movie renaissance? Only time will tell.
