One of the most popular anime series in the world is about to get wilder than ever. Season 2, part 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen teases the insanity of “Shibuya Incident,” an arc from the manga that takes the gorgeous animated sorcerer action to the mean streets of the city of Shibuya. In the trailer for the new arc, the characters, new and old, show out in bloody and bombastic style.

The second part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is coming soon, and it brings “The Shibuya Incident” arc to the anime.

Jujutsu Kaisen follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student who, after consuming a mysterious artifact in order to save his friend, becomes the host of a Curse named Ryomen Sukuna. The Curse, and other entities like it, is a dark born of negative emotion, or curse energy, emitted by human beings.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Yuki maintains control of the Curse. He is taken to train with sorcerers who control and channel Curse energy into extraordinary powers used in the fight against the vile and violent entities born from it.

In Japanese, Jujutsu Kaisen means “Sorcery Fight”. The show is aptly titled. Adapted from the manga written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, this clever series delivers on classic anime tropes with innovative style, characters, and, most of all, killer action.

Critics and fans have praised Jujutsu Kaisen since its first season was released in 2020 for spectacular action set pieces and gorgeous animation, much of which is made possible by advanced motion capture techniques. The show is also beloved for its ability to balance humor, horror, and action, all while giving voice to complex and fascinating characters.

Unlike many of its shōnen predecessors, Jujutsu Kaisen prioritizes dynamic female characters. Many critics have praised this element of the show, marking it as a sign of changing times and a signal to future creators that audiences don’t just put up with complex female characters; they are dying to see them.

All the stars that align to make Jujutsu Kaisen a blast to watch have also turned it into one of the most popular television shows of the past few years. In 2021, it beat out Squid Game to become the second most talked about show on Twitter. The series has won multiple awards and inspired fans to flock in droves to music videos for its hit theme songs.

Basically, it’s a bop.

After the flashback episodes to Satoru Gojo’s past to start Season 2, Jujutsu Kaisen brings fans back to the story of Yuji Itadori.

Season 2 began on July 6, 2023, continuing a trend of positive reception. The “Shibuya Incident” kicks off on August 31, shifting the madness of Jujutsu Kaisen to the urban jungle. The arc will see a deadly alliance between some of the series’ biggest baddies, Pseudo-Geto and Mahito, as they make their move to seal Satoru Gojo.

The battle is always on in Jujutsu Kaisen, and the upcoming episodes of Season 2 don’t look to let up one bit. Catch up on the acclaimed anime on Crunchyroll to be ready for battle on August 31.
