Jeremy Renner Discusses His Marvel Future, Is Hawkeye Retiring?

Jeremy Renner has played the role of Hawkeye in the MCU for over a decade now, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the actor decided to hang up the bow for good. This is especially the case after Renner suffered injuries from a terrible snow plow incident back in January of last year. However, it seems like Renner is more than happy to continue as an Avenger, as he recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his MCU future, saying, “I’m always game,” and “I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure.”

Jeremy Renner Is Almost Fully Recovered From His Accident

Jeremy Renner gave an update on his recovery process, saying, “[I’m doing] probably 90 percent of all the things I needed to be doing… I think another six months will be hopefully running [more].” In other words, it seems like Renner is almost back to his previous physical state, which means he should be able to take on the demands of an action role like Hawkeye. As one of the few remaining original Avengers, it’s music to fans’ ears.

From Uncredited Cameo To His Own Series

Jeremy Renner first appeared as Hawkeye in a small cameo role in Thor before being fully introduced in 2012’s The Avengers. Although Hawkeye got short shrift in that film, being controlled by Loki for most of it, future movies would give us a more fully fleshed-out character. Hawkeye even got his own Disney+ series, which introduced us to Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop and reintroduced Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.

Hawkeye Deserves Closure

It’s great to hear that Jeremey Renner is willing to continue the role of Hawkeye because the character hasn’t been given a definitive ending yet. The team from The Avengers consisted of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Scarlett Johanssan’s Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye. Only Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye remain of those original team members, so it would be a shame if we didn’t get closure on Renner’s character.

Hawkeye Season 2?

While there hasn’t been any news of Jeremy Renner’s Disney+ Hawkeye series getting a second season, the first season certainly left the door open. At the very least, it seems likely that we’ll see Renner pop up again in the upcoming Avengers movies. While it’s unclear what will happen to The Kang Dynasty, we will probably see Hawkeye again in Secret Wars.

Jeremy Renner Returned In What If…? Season 2

Fans of Hawkeye may have missed it, but we did at least get to hear Jeremey Renner voice the character again in the most recent season of the animated What If…? While the episode he appeared in (“What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?) wasn’t Hawkeye-focused, it was still good to see the character again. Other than What If…?, Renner’s most recent project was the second season of his TV series Mayor of Kingstown, which came out last year.
