The Isekai Fantasy Anime About Living The Perfect Life Of Leisure

By Nina Phillips | Published

Often, it’s the action and drama that pushes a show forward, but in The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent the story carries itself without relying on these more thrilling moments. Though this anime focuses on a woman transported from another world to stop evil, the story is about her learning to live in this other world and find new passions. Overall, it’s a down-to-earth and wholesome show that I enjoyed immensely.

An Isekai With A Twist

The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent centers around Sei Takanashi (Yui Ishikawa), who is pulled from modern-day Japan while at work into a completely foreign world. However, she wasn’t the only one brought into this world. Another woman named Aira Misano (Kana Ichinose) also comes from modern Japan and is accidentally transported at the same time as Sei.

Embracing The Mundane

The kingdom that summoned them only needs one saint to fight evil. The prince decides Aira is the actual saint, and Sei finds herself able to do whatever she wants. Over time, Sei chooses to work at the Medicinal Flora Research Institute to help create herbs and potions to heal the soldiers fighting against the monsters.

Pleasure In Using Power For The Simple Things

Along the way, she makes friends, such as Elizabeth Ashley (Reina Ueda), Albert Hawke (Takahiro Sakurai), and Jude (Taku Yashiro). She finds enjoyment in her new day-to-day life of practicing and experimenting with new potions and, potentially, falls in love.

In a time when cozy fantasies are becoming a big genre, finding an Isekai fantasy anime seems fitting. It’s definitely not the only cozy-style anime out there, but it came out at just the right time.

A Focus On The Female Characters

While I loved the show, it’s not the most popular. Its popularity ranking is only at #1186 and is ranked at #2814 for all anime on My Anime List, with a score of 7.31 for the first season. Part of the reason for this slightly lower score is due to its target audience.

Many anime with a similar Isekai premise often focus on men, such as Jobless Reincarnation or That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. These stories are about strong male leads saving the day and harems with scantily-clad women.

An Isekai Aimed At Women

There are Isekais aimed at women, such as My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, but even these often involve some drama and reverse harems. In comparison, The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent is an anime targeting women above high school age, a category known as Josei. While there is some romance, it’s not a reverse harem, and growth and finding your place in the universe are the main parts of the story, which isn’t a show everyone will enjoy.

The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent comes from Diomedea Studio (The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady) and is directed by Shouta Ibata (Medaka Box Abnormal). The story was originally a light novel written by Yuka Tachibana.

REVIEW SCORE

I found The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent to be quite refreshing. Where most other shows I watched during the Spring 2021 season featured exaggerated harems or complex stories, having something that offered a simple and sweet story was something I didn’t realize I needed. I give the show a 4.5 out of 5.
