When Gina Carano was fired from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian by Lucasfilm earlier this year following her continued contentious tweets, reports surfaced that she was supposed to lead her own Star Wars series before the whole controversy. But if a recent report by tipster Daniel Richtman is true, then Carano didn’t just lose the rumored Star Wars series, her role on The Mandalorian, and other possible roles in its various spinoffs but was also removed from the cast of the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett

According to Richtman’s post on his Patreon page, Disney+ and Lucasfilm had cast Gina Carano in the upcoming The Mandalorian spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett. The series was teased at the end of the recently concluded The Mandalorian Season 2 where we saw Boba and his trusted sidekick, Fennec Shand, arrive at Tatooine and capture its throne, becoming the ultimate masters of its widespread criminal underworld.

While the series would have been majorly focused on the adventures of Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, Gina Carano’s bounty hunter, Cara Dune, from The Mandalorian, who became a New Republic Marshal in the Season 2 finale, would have fit right into the story. As now she would have been a caretaker and enforcer of law and not merely just a vigilante for hire, she would have faced a tough time when it came to her former allies, Boba and Shand, as she would be in a dilemma as to whether bust them for their crimes or help them because they are (were?) friends. But even if Gina Carano was indeed set to appear in The Book of Boba Fett or any other Star Wars projects, those plans are no longer in the running.

The news of Gina Carano’s firing was formally announced by a Lucasfilm spokesperson earlier in 2021. It was established that the actress is not anymore employed by Lucasfilm nor she will be in the future as her social media posts had been “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities” and are “abhorrent and unacceptable.” Carano was soon dropped by her agency, UTA, as well.

As per reports, Lucasfilm’s decision to fire Gina Carano’s was not a snap decision and had been in the making for a long time because of her earlier controversial posts, that had ranged from being allegedly transphobic, influencing people to not wear masks during the pandemic, to peddling false conspiracy theories about the 2020 U.S. elections.  But her Instagram story in February, wherein she compared the current political climate in the U.S. to Nazi Germany, did set the plans in motion as they triggered a major public outrage on social media platforms.

But looks like everyone is now moving on. Though Gina Carano is out of the Star Wars franchise, she is busy developing and producing her own film for the conservative website, The Daily Wire. After her firing, fans of Gina Carano had been wondering whether Lucasfilm would be recasting her character, Cara Dune, but a Disney spokesperson has confirmed to IndieWire that won’t be the case at all and The Mandalorian Season 3, as well as the rest of the Star Wars projects, will move forward without the character.
