The new Olivia Wilde-led film, called Don’t Worry Darling, is set to debut soon, and a new trailer was released to showcase the odd nature of this 1950s period piece. What initially seems to be a film that covers the lives of suburban life immediately goes off the rails, as Florence Pugh questions the very fabric of reality. Even more so than the deeper themes of science fiction, and space-time being messed with, there is a lot more sexuality in the trailer than people might have been ready for. Pugh is joined by Harry Styles, which portrays her husband in the film, and they seem to be quite taken with one another. You can see the odd and provocative trailer below:

You must hand it to whoever edited this trailer. The beginning seems to be a run-of-the-mill piece about love and a “white picket fence.” Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) embrace one another after a montage of married couples having fun. Their love is on full display, and maybe a bit too much of it. However, Alice begins to question the leadership of Chris Pine, who clearly plays the semblance of a cult leader. He oversees something called the Victory Project, that is supposed to change their lives, but it all seems to be a bit more grandiose than initially stated by the wives of the men. A loud thunderous sound is made while Oliva Wilde’s character says, “men and their toys.”

Olivia Wilde is set to direct this feature, and she was unceremoniously served with divorce papers while presenting the trailer for Don’t Worry Darling. Even stranger than that occurrence is the trailer itself. This film seems to be all sorts of odd, and Wilde even commented on her inspirations behind making this 1950s science fiction romp. The actress turned director claimed she was attempting to blend Inception, The Matrix, and The Truman Show into one movie. Good job there, as there are plenty of moments in the trailer that have us all questioning reality. Florence Pugh, especially. She seems to be the “overthinking and imaginative” housewife that truly sees reality for what it is. Hopefully, she just doesn’t fly off into the air like Neo.

The internet is certainly questioning a lot in the trailer, especially with what seems to be a whopping three sex scenes involving Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. At least, that is who we think she is with. Also, there is one that shows her being sexual with Styles while Chris Pine watches. We know it’s their characters engaging in these acts, but something odd is truly going on in this trailer, and not just from the sheer weight of living in a fake reality.

Don’t Worry Darling is set to premiere on September 23 in theaters, and the film looks to be as interesting as the cast is. Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, and Nick Kroll round out this cast of husbands and wives that are part of some twisted secret society that is clearly making something nefarious.
