The celebrity life has its upsides of course, which is why so many strive to get into the limelight on the creative side of things. But in Hollywood part of what comes with that fame is that your personal life can play out in a very public arena. It comes with the territory, but it’s always a little weird when fans are given an awkward window into what’s happening with a celebrity couple. That was the case on Tuesday when Olivia Wilde was served papers regarding custody of her children with ex Jason Sudeikis. Deadline has it that Olivia Wilde was given these legal documents while on stage at CinemaCon promoting an upcoming movie. To say it caught the actress and director off guard is an understatement.

According to the reporting, Olivia Wilde was on stage at CinemaCon promoting her upcoming movie Don’t Worry Darling. In the middle of this presentation, a mystery person approached the stage and placed an envelope on it for her marked “personal and confidential”. Wilde clearly caught off guard by what was happening, opened it, and apparently inside were court documents regarding a custody dispute between her and Jason Sudeikis. The two are separated but have two children. These documents came from lawyers representing Sudeikis in the custody hearings.

Apparently, Jason Sudeikis was aware that the papers were going to be served to Olivia Wilde, but he didn’t have knowledge that it would happen in this way, at such a high profile event and in front of a large crowd. Olivia Wilde, after reading the contents of the envelope went on with the Q&A at the event and it was only after that sources confirmed the contents. During the presentation she went on to show a trailer for her new movie, Don’t Worry Darling which was met with a positive reaction among the more than 4,000 people attending.

Representatives from CinemaCon have said they don’t know how the person who delivered the papers was able to clear their security measures seeing as how this was a paid event for the industry. It’s an embarrassing moment for the event coordinators, especially considering how high-profile a move it is to happen during one of their presentations. And according to Deadline, they are examining their security practices related to what happened here with Olivia Wilde and just other events in general.

Olivia Wilde was tapped to promote Don’t Worry Darling in which she is starring and directing. The movie is about a housewife who learns secrets about her husband. The movie is being touted as a psychological thriller and also stars Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, and Harry Styles among others. Initial photography on the movie began in October of 2020 with Wilde and Sudeikis announcing that they were splitting in November of 2020. In January 2021 it was announced that Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles were dating after having met on the set of the film. The movie is set to hit theaters on September 23rd and will head to streaming on HBO Max 45 days later.
