Ezra Miller has been steeped in controversy over the past year, with the latest being accusations from the family of an 18-year-old that Miller was grooming their daughter. Add his recent arrests and the Flash actor has been in a lot of hot water lately. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, writer Grant Morrison said that the stories coming out about Miller are making them seem like a person that Morrison doesn’t know, saying “I haven’t spoken to him for a while” and “All I can say is that it’s just not the person I know. I’ve heard stories just like everyone else. I just don’t know. Ezra cut off contact from pretty much everyone for a while. It’s not the person they were. They weren’t aggressive in any way. ” Morrison went on to say how talented and intelligent he found Miller at the time.

Grant Morrison is a writer who has worked on many Flash comics for DC and was brought on to come up with a script for The Flash movie. They ended up not going with his material, but apparently, he had worked with Ezra Miller extensively on this first draft, spending a couple of weeks together coming up with ideas. So, although the screenplay was unused, it seems like Morrison had a lot of time to get to know Miller. With that, it seems like they worked together a little while ago, so there’s always the chance that Miller changed in the time they’ve been apart.

Regardless of Ezra Miller’s controversies, it seems like Warner Bros is moving ahead with The Flash with Miller in the lead. The ground looked a little shaky for the franchise following Miller’s earlier two arrests. They had been twice in a month, with one of their arrests being for disorderly conduct and harassment and the other arrest for allegedly assaulting a couple. Presumably, if these troubles continue, DC will be unlikely to continue working with Miller in the future.

Many fans have already expressed interest in Ezra Miller being replaced in the series due to his behavior. The fan-favorite choice to replace them is Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen/The Flash in the CW series. The CW has been canceling their superhero series left and right, and Gustin is currently only signed on for one more season, making the jump to the big screen even easier. The Flash movie also seems to be jumping on the multiverse trend, which means other versions of the Flash could always appear. The Flash will also bring back Michael Keaton’s Batman, along with Ben Affleck’s take on the character. In other words, there is precedent for multiple Flashes to appear in this movie.

This isn’t the only controversy that DC is dealing with at the moment. In addition to the fan pressure to replace Ezra Miller, there is also fan pressure to replace Amber Heard in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom after the trial between her and Johnny Depp. DC is sticking to their guns in that situation as well. Regardless of who appears on screen in the upcoming DCEU films, you can expect to see The Flash hit theaters on June 23, 2023.
