The news around Doctor Strange 2 is continuing to pile up with the possibility of more and more stars making their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, or others returning as popular characters. It’s setting up to be a massive affair and the inclusion of the Multiverse as part of the narrative makes nearly anything possible in this world. Well, Giant Freakin Robot now has the scoop from a trusted and proven source that Zazie Beetz is returning as Domino and will be joining the MCU. This is just another sign that previous iterations of characters are going to, almost seamlessly, make their way into this world.
This latest news about Zazie Beetz returning as Domino in Doctor Strange 2, is interesting because it could begin to establish connections between the current Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Deadpool universe as well. With the latter character set to make his way into the mix at some point, this could end up being one of the first clear through-lines around how the universes connect. Because this next Doctor Strange movie is The Multiverse of Madness, we know that Benedict Cumberbatch’s character is going to be shooting to all sorts of different dimensions. Connecting the current line of stories with those that have happened within the Deadpool franchise becomes a bit “easier” in this respect.
Zazie Beetz first appeared as Domino in Deadpool 2. She’s a mutant who can manipulate aspects of luck around her which makes things considerably easier when navigating through different situations. This “power” was highlighted in a number of different ways in the film, though hilariously brought into question by Reynolds as Deadpool who took major umbrage with this being something a comic book creator would come up with as a core power. Deadpool, in a bit tongue-in-cheek commentary, questioned whether someone came up with it because they “couldn’t draw feet.”
Another interesting aspect of Zazie Beetz coming on board in Doctor Strange 2 is that it continues to open up the additions of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That group has long been absent from the first few phases because of character rights. But that issue is over now and we know the X-Men are on their way into stories. Domino is a member of the X-Men (and X-Force obviously) and could begin to bridge to gap between the two sets of stories.
And in addition to Zazie Beetz having a role in Doctor Strange 2, there have been some other interesting rumors swirling out there around who else could make an appearance even if it’s only temporary. A couple of recent ones include Tom Cruise making a cameo as an alternate version of Tony Stark/ Iron Man in another universe. Plus there were rumors of Ben Affleck reprising his Daredevil role or maybe even Leonardo DiCaprio as Spider-Man. It’s all on the table, though those latter ones are merely rumors. Zazie Beetz, for her part, is heading back as Domino.
You’ll get a chance to see Zazie Beetz as Domino when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens in theaters on May 6th of this year. It’s sure to be a massive blockbuster with tons of surprises.
