Don Cheadle has confirmed our scoop regarding his involvement in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. During an interview with BroBible, the Marvel Cinematic Universe actor revealed that he would be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ series. “You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show,” the actor said while speaking on BroBible’s Post-Credits Podcast. You don’t get a better confirmation than that!
Now that our scoop has been confirmed, it is time to start guessing exactly why Don Cheadle will be appearing as Rhodey in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The obvious answer is that his appearance will help to set up his own upcoming Disney+ series, Armor Wars. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become infamous for their post-credits teasers and how they are used to set up future projects down the line. Will Rhodey’s presence in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier be little more than a cameo to help get audiences excited for Armor Wars?
Or will Don Cheadle be playing a more vital role in the series? We are fairly certain that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will continue the kind of intrigue we saw in movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. With Rhodey often acting as a mediating figure between the Avengers and the government/military, could he find himself in another dilemma when it comes to where his allegiances lie? Or will he be a purely supportive force to Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes? Whatever role he ends up playing, it is safe to assume he will be giving us a sneak peek at what we can expect from the character in Armor Wars.
It will be great to see Don Cheadle step into the spotlight as Rhodey. He has certainly put a definitive stamp on the character over the years, but he has not exactly been given the kind of leading man status that an actor of his caliber deserves. That is not to say that he has not been memorable in parts of movies like Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Endgame, but it will be extremely rewarding to see him take center stage and get all the focus for once. And we are betting we will get a preview of how that will shake out thanks to his appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Now that we have confirmed both Don Cheadle’s appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Josh Brolin’s return as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks like there will be plenty of exciting appearances throughout Phase 4 of the Marvel experiment. We are looking forward to a monumental cameo in WandaVision and an equally big addition to the third Spider-Man film. There is no doubt that this next era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be littered with surprises.
