Since starting his professional acting career in 2009, David Harbour has had a steady string of work in Hollywood. While most of them were minor supporting roles, he finally gained recognition for his portrayal of Jim Hopper in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. Due to his efforts, the Black Widow alum has been cast as the lead in a brand new movie called The Trashers. According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Cooper Raiff (of Cha Cha Real Smooth fame) is set to direct the film from a script by Adam R. Perlman. The director is currently working on a few revisions of the story as well. 30West is handling the financing, with the David Harbour starrer hoping to debut at the Cannes Film Festival. But nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Filming is due to begin later this year.

The Trashers is based on the true story of Connecticut-based businessman and mob associate Jimmy Galante – who David Harbour will be playing in the movie. In 2004, the trash-collecting mogul purchased the city’s minor-league hockey team and left his teenage son to run it. Dubbed The Trashers, the team became an unlikely success. But it all came crashing down when everyone discovered that his companies and hockey team were all part of an elaborate scam. And that he was in cahoots with the notorious Genovese crime family who protected his illicit operations. You can see Harbour, and the real-life Jimmy Galante, in the photos below.

Jimmy was arrested on 72 criminal charges, Deadline reports. The entire saga was profiled in an episode of Netflix’s Untold documentary series. Speaking about the upcoming feature, Raiff said he feels very lucky to be working with David Harbour. “He’s a magnificent actor and the perfect Jimmy Galante because he’s truly tough and impossibly warm,” the director told the publication. “He’s also the best person and I hope he reads this and knows I want to be friends with him forever.”

Tom McNulty of MC2 Entertainment and Andrew Morrison of Yellow Bear Films will be producing the David Harbour movie. Micah Green, Dan Steinman, and Dan Friedkin will serve as executive producers for 30West along with Jon Wertheim and Adam R. Perlman. AJ Galante, whose life the story is based on, will also be an associate producer, says Deadline. Casting director Angela Demo is currently scouting more actors to fill minor roles.

Meanwhile, David Harbour can be seen in the highly anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things. The nine-episode offering will debut in two parts beginning on May 27th. The second bunch of episodes will be released a few weeks later on July 1st. The story takes place six months after the terrifying Battle of Starcourt left the quiet town of Hawkins in a state of devastation.

David Harbour is also working on a few other projects. He is set to star in We Have a Ghost for Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ Violent Night. The latter is billed as an action-comedy, directed by Tommy Wirkola from a screenplay by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. The story follows a group of mercenaries who attack the estate of a rich family on Christmas Eve. Fortunately, Santa steps in to save the holiday. Violent Night is set for release on December 2nd.
