The Alex Cross novel series by bestselling author James Patterson features 32 books, two novellas, and three books centered on Alex Cross’ son Ali. Since its debut in 1993, the books have become extremely popular, often becoming bestsellers due to their blend of drama and suspense. However, previous attempts to adapt the novels for the screen have had mixed results.

Morgan Freeman starred in the films Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls in the 1990s, while Tyler Perry played the character in the 2012 reboot Alex Cross. The new Prime Video Cross series, aims to do justice to the character by giving him more time to develop in a serialized format. The show is said to balance the investigative and psychological aspects of the novels with some action elements.
