When it comes to the upcoming fourth film in the famous Matrix franchise, there is a long list of things about it that people have been psyched about since the film was first announced. It is one of the highly anticipated films of 2021 and recently became an even hotter commodity when the makers of the film went ahead and added the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominee Christina Ricci to an already impressive cast.
Unlike the past additions to The Matrix 4, the news of Christina Ricci was not officially announced by Warner Bros. and only came out via a press kit released by the studio. While actors like Keanu Reeves are returning as Neo, Carrie Ann-Moss as Trinity, Jada Pinkett-Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson, Ricci will be joining the new faces added to the renowned franchise, namely, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, and Jonathan Groff.
But just like any details about The Matrix 4, including its real title, no details are available as to what character Christina Ricci will be playing in the film that is due to release by the end of this year. But nevertheless, the fact that she will be in the film is enough to get her fans and admirers of the franchise as well all excited for what mysterious unconventional role, which Ricci is famous for, she will be playing this time.
Her addition to The Matrix 4 also means that Christina Ricci will be reuniting with director Lana Wachowski, who helmed her 2008’s underestimated Speed Racer, for the second time. But chances are that she will soon work with the Wachowski sisters again as fans of the 2008 film are still waiting for the promised sequel to Speed Racer. Maybe, despite the original’s tepid box office performance (which has since gained a cult following), its sequel may one day see the light of day.
Apart from the possibility of her returning as Speed Racer’s Trixie, there have also been rumors that she will be making a comeback as a member of The Addams Family. Christina Ricci is still remembered for playing a young Wednesday Addams in the original movie version of The Addams Family in 1991 and in its 1993 sequel Addams Family Values.
As reported by Illuminerdi, Christina Ricci is being considered for the Addams family reboot Wednesday, which will be a Netflix show. If true, she won’t be returning as Wednesday Addams but as an older Morticia. As for who will be playing her original character? It is yet to be decided. But apart from the announcement that Tim Burton will be making his TV directorial debut with the show, no new information has been shared. So, it is yet unknown whether Ricci has accepted the role or if Burton has even made her the offer in the first place.
