Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel Is A Princess In New Movie, Here She Is In Her Super-Gown

By Kevin C. Neece | Updated

Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel isn’t just a captain anymore; she’s also a princess in the upcoming film The Marvels. It is certainly a bit of a transition, both in terms of rank and in her look, but we are interested to see what this new direction for the character entails. In the meantime, you can take a look at these images shared on X (formerly Twitter) of the superhero in a new princess gown.

What appears to be images from a leaked scene of The Marvels shows Brie Larson as Captain Marvel in a princess-like gown.

Shared by X user GirlzzzBarbie, the images show Brie Larson getting in touch with a more formal and elegant side of her character, though we’re not sure the fighter pilot looks entirely comfortable in a ball gown.

The images appear to have been leaked from a scene whose full context is not entirely known yet, though it does resemble events that took place in the comics. But this is not the first time the idea of Princess Captain Marvel showing up in The Marvels has been teased ahead of the film’s release.

Earlier, Brie Larson’s character was shown in this outfit and listed as Princess Carol in new Happy Meal toys that focus on the forthcoming Marvel movie. The toys also include a Prince Yan, indicating the character seen in the leaked images played by Park Seo-joon.

While it does not seem from the context of the comics or what we know of the films so far that Captain Marvel is a genuine princess in this scene, she may at least be posing as one.

Ever since Brie Larson first appeared in the role of Captain Marvel in 2019, there have been constant comparisons and contrasts with the original comic book versions of the character. In this case, the upcoming film seems to be incorporating a plot point that has appeared in the comics before.

In that story, Carol Danvers knows Prince Yan and goes to his planet to help him ascend to the throne by marrying him. It’s complicated, but it ends up with Captain Marvel free from the marriage contract, Yan on the throne of his planet, and some arcane marriage laws abolished.

With the SAG-AFTRA strike still ongoing, Brie Larson and other stars of the film are barred from promoting The Marvels, so leaks like these help generate buzz in their absence.

While the full plot of The Marvels is not yet known, it stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris as Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Captain Rambeau, respectively, whose light-based powers are all intertwined in the film. How closely the Princess Carol and Prince Yan scene hews to the comics and what role it all plays in the larger plot of the film remain to be seen, but the sneak peek is certainly interesting.

Whether this particular leak was planned or not is unclear, but it shows us we have a lot more to expect from The Marvels than high action and space battles. Originally, this scene was apparently also a musical, as people on this planet could only speak by singing. Kevin Feige, however, reportedly nixed this idea.

Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris will hit theaters as The Marvels on November 10.
