Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson are two of the most exciting actresses in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Larson playing Captain Marvel, and Thompson playing Valkyrie. Now on Twitter, Larson seems to imply that the two actresses have something in the works.
The pair’s friendship originally made headlines in 2019 at the ACE Comic Con, where these photos were taken, leading many to hope this could lead to a relationship between Captain Marvel and Valkyrie. While it has been confirmed that Valkyrie will be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first LGBTQ hero, it’s unclear if this means we will see Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson as a romantic option in a future Marvel film.
Of course, Brie Larson saying they’re “cooking something up” could just be a reference to the sly glances the two are giving each other in these photos, or it could be something smaller than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There have been rumors that Brie Larson could be making future projects with Netflix, or Thompson could simply be appearing on Larson’s YouTube channel.
Since filming for Thor: Love and Thunder began earlier this year in Australia, it doesn’t seem like we will be seeing Brie Larson in this fourth Thor film. However, it has been confirmed that Tessa Thompson will be in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the film does look to already have a packed cast. In addition to Thompson as Valkyrie, this new Thor film will also include several members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the return of Jane Foster – who will be playing the Mighty Thor – and the debut of Christian Bale in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Gorr the God Butcher.
But it’s possible we could see Tessa Thompson in Captain Marvel 2. That sequel is scheduled for release at the end of 2022, although it’s unclear when filming will start. Right now, we do know that Captain Marvel 2 will feature what looks to be a primarily female cast, which could easily add Tessa Thompson to the cast. In addition to Brie Larson, Captain Marvel 2 will feature Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris will play her WandaVision character of Monica Rambeau. Nia Da Costa, who also directed the upcoming Candyman reboot will be one of the few female directors to helm a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
There have been rumors for years that Marvel will eventually have a film that will star multiple female heroes, but nothing has come of this project. As the end of Avengers: Endgame proved, there are plenty of female superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make this work. If this project does eventually happen, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Tessa Thompson and Brie Larson leading the way.
As for Valkyrie and Captain Marvel, it looks as though we will have to wait until 2022 to see them in their own films, however, who knows when whatever Tessa Thompson and Brie Larson are working on will see the light of day. Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2022 release date, while Captain Marvel 2 is planned for November 11, 2022.
