Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill have not been given the best chance at showcasing their takes on the relationship between Batman and Superman. They got things started off with the worst DC film in recent memory and their interactions in Justice League were not something to write home about. It is a real shame since both are great actors and are very good at embodying these classic characters, but they just have never been given the right story to really make a solid dramatic argument for their iterations of the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel. However, if a new scoop is true, they might be getting another shot.

Mikey Sutton over at Geekosity is reporting that Ben Affleck could be jumping into the role of Batman in the rumored World’s Finest movie that will see Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman team-up together to take on some unknown foe. Originally, we had heard a scoop that it would be Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman in the film, but it sounds like things could be shifting away from that casting choice. There have been reports that Robert Pattinson is not having the best time during the production of The Batman.

Could Warner Bros. be more interested in giving Ben Affleck another shot at the role? We know he is going to return as Batman in The Flash but many folks have assumed that that movie would act as his sendoff for the character. With this new piece of news, it sounds like the actor isn’t quite finished with the Caped Crusader. And to be fair, it would be much more prestigious for him to leave the role of Batman in a movie that was focused on the character instead of just popping up in a supporting role in another superhero’s feature film.

Many folks have argued that Ben Affleck was a great bit of casting for Bruce Wayne/Batman, but it still seems like he has never gotten a shot at a good movie as the character. This is not a case where the actor only looks at the role as a way to get a big paycheck. Affleck is an avowed comic book and superhero fan. There could very well be a desire for him to do the character justice because he is a fan first and foremost. If that is the case, you have to at least applaud his passion for the role.

A lot of this likely has to do with whether or not Justice League: Director’s Cut – yes, that is its official title – ends up being a hit on HBO Max. If the interest and numbers from that experiment come back and don’t impress the bosses at WarnerMedia, it is likely that the DC universe will abandon these actors and try to interject new versions of these characters that fans respond to with overwhelming positivity. Basically, Ben Affleck has to hope and pray that Justice League: Director’s Cut does well on the streaming service.

If it does, it sounds like we could see Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck reunite one more time as the world’s finest superheroes. We will simply have to wait and see what kind of response Justice League: Director’s Cut receives because it seems like the future of the DC universe is going to be made or broken on its back.
