Amber Heard has nabbed her next big role. In an exclusive with Variety, the actress was announced to have landed the leading part in director Conor Allyn’s new film, In the Fire. Heard will be traveling to Italy’s Apulia region soon to begin filming alongside leading actor, Eduardo Noriega who is known for his work in Vantage Point. Already gaining momentum at the European Film Market (EFM,) the picture is looking to rake in the dough for Angel Oak Films who will be selling the project. Along with their hand in selling, Angel Oak Films will produce alongside Paradox Studios and Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s, ILBE.

Set in the 19th century and taking on the eeriness of a supernatural thriller, In the Fire will center around the story of a family living on a Colombian farm in the 1890s. The village has fallen upon tough times and are looking for someone or something to blame for their hardships. That someone comes in the form of the aforementioned family’s young autistic son. With the sway of the town’s priest, the villagers are in agreement that the child is under demonic possession and that is why things have taken a turn for the worse. When his wife passes, Don Marquez (Eduardo Noriega) will seek the help of an American psychiatrist named Grace Victoria Burnham (Amber Heard) to bring peace to his son (Lorenzo McGovern Zaini). Upon his diagnosis, the psychiatrist struggles to convince the townspeople that the boy is of no threat to them.

In a statement announcing the film’s news, Iervolino, who will be joined as an executive producer alongside Pascal Borno, Silvio Muraglia, and Alain Gillissen, spoke to her enthusiasm for having the opportunity to work with Amber Heard, Conor Allyn, Eduardo Noriega, and Lorenzo McGovern Zaini, saying that the group will “gel” together wonderfully. The producer added that she and her team are “always proud” when they are able to film something of this caliber in Italy. Along with directing, Allyn also wrote the film with Borno and Muraglia. Already cleaning up after a signed deal with Saban Film for $1.5 million to show In the Fire in territories including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, France, and Germany, the movie is showing no signs of slowing down as it chugs full steam ahead to the EFM.

Amber Heard took to her Twitter account to release the Variety exclusive news along with a caption in which the actress spoke of her enthusiasm for the new role. Most recently, fans will recognize Heard from her part in DC’s Aquaman franchise as the queen of Atlantis, Mera. First appearing in the DC Extended Universe films in 2017, she has so far starred in Justice League, Aquaman, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. She will also reprise her role for the upcoming sequel to 2018’s Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Heard’s name is also known for her time in the press due to her tumultuous relationship with now ex-husband, Johnny Depp. The two have been in countless lawsuits with each other including a recent one that is heading to court in April 2022.

Sounding equal parts spooky and mysterious, we can’t wait to hear more about Amber Heard’s new film. Set to the unsettling backdrop of a small 19th century town, In the Fire is sure to be a stunner not just at the EFM, but also upon its release to theaters.
