Ahsoka Season 2 Underway With Star Wars’ New Creative Leader

By Douglas Helm | Published

Dave Filoni is making the jump from Jedi Knight to Jedi Master, as the director/writer/producer has been named Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm. Alongside this announcement, the Star Wars website also confirmed that Filoni is developing the second season of his Ahsoka series. It’s a full-circle moment for Filoni, who was brought on to Star Wars: The Clone Wars by George Lucas himself, creating the character of Ahsoka Tano with Lucas.

Ahsoka Season 2 Is A Go

Along with developing Ahsoka Season 2, Dave Filoni is also directing and writing a film that will bring together the stories in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. He will also be producing the recently announced The Mandalorian & Grogu film, which will be directed by The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau. If that wasn’t enough, Filoni is also executive producing the upcoming Skeleton Crew show and the second season of Tales of the Jedi, where he is also the supervising director and showrunner.

A Much Wiser Ahsoka

With all this work on his hands, you’d think Dave Filoni would be too busy for Ahsoka Season 2, but apparently, that isn’t the case. This is fortunate for fans because the first season set up a lot of interesting storylines for everyone’s favorite Jedi turned Rebel Ronin. The series takes place after Star Wars Rebels where Ahsoka is an older and wiser figure who reunites with her apprentice, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) to try and find the lost Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi).

Thrawn

Of course, tracking down Ezra also comes with the risk of running into Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson), whom Ezra brought to hyperspace with him to protect the planet of Lothal. While Season 1 of Ahsoka wasn’t the best Star Wars series out there, it did put a lot of pieces in place for a very exciting Season 2. Spoilers ahead if you missed out on the first season.

Obviously, Thrawn making it back to the main galaxy is one of the most immediate threats that will be picked up in Ahsoka Season 2. We’ll also have to see how Ahsoka and Sabine make it back after they were left stranded on the planet where Ezra and Thrawn were previously stranded. Perhaps they’ll find their way back by learning more about the Mortis Gods, which have massive statues that were found by Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) in Season 1.

Ahsoka Was First Introduced In The Clone Wars

Ahsoka Tano was introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan during the Clone Wars, and she quickly became a fan-favorite character over the years. Although she was voiced by Ashley Eckstein in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Filoni-created Star Wars: Rebels, Rosario Dawson took on the role in the live-action series, making her first appearance in The Mandalorian. Dawson will continue to portray the character in Season 2.

What Will Happen To Baylan Skoll?

The tragic passing of Ray Stevenson will also likely be addressed in Ahsoka Season 2, though it remains to be seen how Filoni handles it. Skoll’s storyline was easily one of the most interesting in Season 1, in no small part due to Stevenson’s gravitas-imbued performance, so it seems unlikely the storyline would just be abandoned altogether. It seems likely that the character would be re-cast, but we’ll have to wait and see.
