For a monthly fee of $40,000, Disney enthusiasts can live in the famous Storybook Mansion, where Walt Disney and his wife, Lillian, raised their two children. This Los Feliz residence is currently open for leasing. Constructed by Disney himself, this four-bedroom dwelling was built following several years of success in the field of animation.

“This property was chosen by Walt Disney as the place to raise his family, and also coincided with a transition of Disney Studios from fledgling enterprise toward entertainment giant,” listing agent Chase Campen of Compass said in a statement via  Deadline. The 6,400-square-foot home was built in just three months, with its current owner, Timur Bekmambetov, restoring it over the last decade.

Bekmambetov, a Kazakhstan-born filmmaker, purchased the home in 2011. In 2016 he talked about his acquisition, describing Walt Disney as “a visionary man” that “invented a whole world.” Bekmambetov is said to have decorated the house with sketches of popular Disney characters and numerous Mickey Mouse figurines.

Believed to be the source of inspiration for the iconic 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it also served as the creative birthplace for Cinderella in 1950 and Pinocchio in 1940. Combining the charm of a storybook cottage with the grandeur of a luxurious mansion, this residence forms a captivating part of Walt Disney’s enchanting narrative.

Walt Disney is said to have commissioned the construction of this residence upon learning that his wife was expecting their first child. Tragically, the baby didn’t survive, and their happy plans were thwarted. However, their family eventually expanded when they joyfully welcomed Diane Marie in 1933, followed by the adoption of their daughter Sharon Mae in 1936.

The home still boasts the original vaulted beamed ceilings, wood-paneled walls, and charming brick fireplace. The authentic leaded windows, which offer a picturesque view of the Los Angeles skyline, remain intact. The Walt Disney house also features meticulously maintained pathways, a pool, a delightful dining area covered with a trellis, and an expansive 10-car garage.

Additionally, an iconic Snow White-themed playhouse, famously constructed by Walt Disney for his beloved daughters, adds to the magical allure of the estate. The residence has served as a filming location in recent years, adding to its illustrious history.

On select occasions, it graciously opens its doors to the public for special events, allowing visitors to experience its unique charm firsthand. Walt Disney, a visionary and creative genius, left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment and storytelling. His name has become synonymous with magic, imagination, and perseverance.

As such, renting Walt Disney’s former home offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the essence of Disney’s remarkable journey. As the founder of the world-renowned Disney brand, Disney revolutionized the animation industry, bringing beloved characters and enchanting stories to life.

His relentless pursuit of his dreams and unwavering determination in the face of challenges serve as an inspiration to individuals seeking to make their own mark in their respective fields.

With its captivating design and whimsical details, the house embodies the magic and creativity that defined Walt Disney’s work. Every corner of the house tells a story, reminding residents of the power of imagination and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
