Sarah Michelle Gellar has been mostly out of the public and Hollywood eye over the last few years when it comes to taking bigger roles in different movies or television shows. But she is still one of the more recognizable faces around and was part of one of the more iconic shows of a generation. Unfortunately, the actress is being pulled back into the public eye recently, but not of her own volition. Sarah Michelle Gellar felt compelled to weigh in on the recent allegations levied at her former boss Joss Whedon.

Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram on Wednesday to address the accusations made against Joss Whedon by one of Gellar’s former colleagues Charisma Carpenter. The latter has been vocal of late about Whedon’s reported treatment of actors and actresses on set including his behavior while working with the group on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Gellar had this to say on Instagram:

While Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn’t offer any specifics about her interactions with Joss Whedon, it’s fairly clear her position on the matter. This is in no way support of the director and instead implies, rather implicitly, that she was at the receiving end of some of his on-set behavior. There doesn’t appear to be any plan for Gellar to address the matter any further but that doesn’t mean we won’t hear from her again. As one of the more famous actresses who starred in Whedon’s breakout show, this isn’t likely to be the last we hear on the subject.

The issue at hand is the allegations levied at Joss Whedon by a former cast member on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Charisma Carpenter played Cordelia Chase for the first three seasons of the show and then moved over to the spin-off Angel. She shared some specifics in a lengthy and rather disturbing Twitter post.

Charisma Carpenter’s post, and the response from Sarah Michelle Gellar, comes in response to Ray Fisher’s allegations that Joss Whedon was abusive on the set of the Justice League. She shares the details of Whedon’s treatment toward women in the cast and some direct quotes regarding her pregnancy at the time. Fisher alleged that Whedon was abusive during the shooting of the movie back in 2017. He didn’t offer too many details on the interactions in the public view but it did prompt an investigation by the studio into what transpired.

With these two actors publicly denouncing the director, and Sarah Michelle Gellar lending her support, we might hear more from others as well. The actress spent seven years on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the starring and titular role. If anyone was able to offer more specifics about the on-set treatment toward others, it’s likely Gellar.

As for Sarah Michelle Gellar and her acting career, she has been relatively quiet when it comes to on-screen roles in the short-term. She mentions spending more time with her family and that appears to have been the case of the last few years. That is set to change soon though with her upcoming role as Teela in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. On the topic of Whedon though, I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear on the subject.
