The cause of Lance Reddick’s untimely death has been revealed and, in the case of the late actor’s lawyer, reviled. People reports that Attorney James Hornstein disagrees vehemently with the cause listed on the John Wick actor’s official death certificate.

According to the actor’s death certificate, the cause of Lance’s death is ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. Hornstein challenged the results, however, stating that “The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle.” Hornstein maintains that Lance Reddick exercised every day leading up to his death, including heavy cardio, and never experienced any heart-related problems.

The lawyer also takes issue with the fact that the coroner came to their conclusions about Lance Reddick and the cause of his death without doing an autopsy first. “No autopsy was performed on Lance,” said Hornstein. He further explained that to his knowledge, Reddick had never in his lifetime had a doctor express any concerns with the actor’s heart health.

Hornstein released a statement where he stated on behalf of the wife of Lance Reddick that the information on the actor’s death certificate wasn’t “corroborated” and was inconsistent with what Reddick’s family knew surrounding his passing. It’s unclear if Hornstein is hinting at something unreported that the family knows about Lance’s death or just their general understanding of Reddick’s health prior to his death.

It’s unknown at this time what, if any, action Reddick’s former attorney plans to take against the coroner’s office. Hornstein didn’t mention anything about seeking out an autopsy, a request that would be time sensitive as Reddick is expected to be cremated soon.
